As a writer, I can see this being a book and eventually a movie.

Very good interview. I remember being an inmate at Danbury and tried to ask Ms. Kisha Perkins for a recommendation for additional halfway house. I couldn’t even get a meeting with her. Jamilla definitely guarded her and Lauryn. Had to write a letter and my halfway house was denied. I was so angry. I wasn’t trying to be anyone’s favorite, I just wanted to be treated fair. But I thank you Kisha for denying me. It wasn’t time and if I was released early, I would not have had the opportunity to meet the people I did that changed the trajectory of my life. Good interview ladies. ❤❤❤

This is the type of material that definitely needed during this time where the landscape of the black woman’s image is currently under attack. The current representation of black women is not being associated with strength, resilience, compassion and/ empathy, we are constantly criticized meanwhile we are ostracized from the necessary resources that can fill us up whole. We take joy, love and understanding from the darkest moments of our existence and yet still manage to build from that darkness and experience but we also manage to carve out an opportunity to lift up others who share similar experiences and don’t have the strength to do so for themselves. We practice unconditional gratitude, love and understanding even in circumstances that most people couldn’t comprehend how, when and from where we find our strength even in our weaknesses.

Great show and the stories are unbelievable. I was in the federal camp in Lexington, Ky and there were some great officers and some bad one's especially the men that exploited some of the women. Thank you for a podcast that much needed.
