With all due respect to India's Urdu shayars, I don't think that Pakistan or its citizens understand or want to agree with the concept of agnostic or atheist as their nation is based on hardcore Islamic ideals and religious difference. Javed Aktar sahib is wasting his time explaining a concept that their nation cannot accept as it will then nullify the 'two nation theory' espoused by their separatist leader Jinnah

Javed Sahib is right when he says, "till the sun and moon revolve around their axes, Urdu will remain in existence". But it will be abducted by the 'Hindiwalas' and amalgamate with Hindi. Thus losing its identity as Urdu. The Hindu nationalists do not have a problem with the Urdu language itself. They hate the name Urdu because it is associated with the Muslims (rightly or wrongly).

Another progressive Urdu poet, Sardar Jafri, who was an atheist in his young age has said: "Agar youn hai to quon hai, youn nahin to quon hani aakhir, Yaquin mohkam hai, leikin dil ki hairani nahin jaati" Javed Sahib is still stuck with the first line. He has not reached the wisdom of the second. An apology: I would have liked to write my comment in Urdu. But the Urdu online script is horribly ugly. It is hard to read. I, therefore, use Romanized transliteration.

I respect him for his poetic prowess, but when he starts talking against religious beliefs and describes the superiority of rationalism, I am reminded of the quote by Aldous Huxley (perhaps an accurate representation of what rationalists genuinely believe). Here is the quote- “I had motives for not wanting the world to have a meaning; consequently assumed that it had not; and was able without any difficulty to find satisfying reasons for this assumption. The philosopher who finds no meaning for this world is not concerned exclusively with the problem of pure metaphysics; he is also concerned to prove that there is no valid reason why he personally should not do as he wants to...For myself...the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation, sexual and political.” Aldous Huxley

السلام علیکم! عاطف صاحب! آپ نے شاعری کے متعلق تو بڑے اچھے سوال کیے۔ جب وہ مذہب پر بول رہے تھے تو گلکیسز پر بھی تحقیق فرما رہے تھے، نئی نئی دنیا بھی آباد کر رہے تھے، یہ گلیکسی بنی کیسے، یہ کھڑی کیسے ہے۔ ہر چیز ایک نظام سے چل کیسے رہی ہے اس پر کوئی بات ہی نہیں کی۔ اپنی ہر چیز بتدریج ترقی کر رہی ہے۔ ہر چیز کو سنبھالنے والا کوئی ہے، شاعری میں پہلے باپ کرتا تھا، بیٹے نے اس سے سیکھی، اب آگے آگے چل رہی ہے۔ لیکن دنیا اور آخرت کی بات آئے تو سب کچھ خود بخود ہو رہا ہے۔ ہر کوئی مرنے سے ڈرتا ہے، یہ بھی جھوٹ ہے۔ اکثر لوگ مرنے سے ڈرتے ہیں یہ کہا جا سکتا ہے۔ اکثر بزرگ تو خود موت کی تمنا کرتے دیکھے گئے۔ پلیز! کچھ اس پر بھی روشنی ڈالیں، شکریہ!!!
