I’m 15 minutes into the video and I haven’t heard what the supposed individualist solution to capitalism is. All Ive heard so far is suspiciously “anti-woke” rhetorical criticism of leftist movements for pushing inclusivity and tolerance. I guess I’ll finish listening and give my full thoughts. Edit: Okay, I can see some utility in the idea of individuals freeing themselves from capitalist exploitation by whatever means, but it is ultimately not a solution for all people. Some people are differently able, some are so exploited they can’t possibly gain the power to free themselves acting alone or even with a small group of associates. And fundamentally the rejection of the importance of quantitative change is completely irrational and unscientific. Climate change is not going to be reduced or eliminated by a few small isolated groups of anarchist-individual hermits building a tree fort or squatting in an empty/abandoned building. Climate change is a massive scale collective problem that requires mass collective action to address. Freeing yourself individually from capitalism means nothing if the world still burns.

@@AutonomousVoice No response to my criticism? That doesn’t seem serious. Here’s the bottom line: Climate Change is a quantitative problem. More greenhouse gases = more climate change. The rejection of quantitative solutions to problems is the rejection of reality. Empirical evidence shows there needs to be systematic change in our society to effectively address the sheer scale of the challenge. The ideas presented in this video seem vague to me. Humans have always existed as societies, whether tribal, feudal, federations or nation states. Individuals have rarely succeeded to influence anything whatsoever whilst excluding themselves from the larger social system. They can replace it with another, better organization or they can reform the existing system, but fundamentally I don’t think anyone can make a change without accepting some kind of attachment and duty to the group. Bonds can restrict or they can strengthen. The question becomes what the system does in its effect, and what do we want it to do, rather than rejecting systems and organizations entirely. To achieve your own personal liberation is good. But everyone must be liberated if humanity is going to survive capitalism.
