From Red to Green: Using the IUCN Status of Species to Evaluate Conservation Programme Impact

Join the CIEEM Academia SIG for the November edition of their monthly discussion events. This month ASIG will be discussing the use of the IUCN status of species to evaluate conservation programme impact. We’ll be joined by Dr Richard Young from Nature Positive.
Dr Rich Young is Technical Director at Nature Positive. He brings his international biodiversity expertise to help businesses and other organisations assess, disclose, reduce and mitigate their impacts and dependencies on nature through their operations and value chains. Through a near 20-year career as a conservation scientist and practitioner for an international nature conservation charity, he has extensive first-hand experience of threatened species and ecosystem recovery and the drivers of biodiversity loss.
He has published over 70 scientific papers in biodiversity and conservation, and between 2011 and 2020 was co-chair of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Small Mammal Specialist Group, an international body of experts who advise on the status of over half the world’s mammal species. Richard is also currently a member of the task force assembled to design the IUCN Green Status of Species, a new global tool for assessing species recovery and conservation impacts.
