Its not a fail, you got to enjoy the bike and you got your money back. I think this sort of thing may work better with beginner motorcycles.

The tool is not 600 … it’s about 150, also most BMW owners have it .. it’s called obd link lx. Find someone with the tool and the app and reset service light for free !

You do have to make another small purchase on your phone to reset it with an app.

He is filming this in South Africa so it's possible the OBD link costs that much over there. I say this having grown up there and knowing how expensive electronics can be compared to the USA.

I have moto scan app + uni car scan OBD 2. Does the job for me. Can reset service light and set service reminder by date or milage. And it does many other things too Adjust parameters, test input function, view live data battery voltage throttle position. Check and clear fault codes ect. And in total only cost roughly £100 GBP £50 for the app (unlimited use and features) and the other 50 was the OBD reader.

I'm with you on cleaning a bike before sale - it's probably the easiest and cheapest way of adding value. For future reference, you can restore sun-bleached plastics by gentle use of a heat gun.

I found the premise for this series really intriguing and I definitely hope you try again. Perhaps with the next one it can start out in a rougher shape but with a cheaper entry price, such that you have more scope to add value.

There are 3 bikes in my garage that are all worth way more than I paid for them. All of them had issues that were relatively cheap & easy for me to fix, but they all took a while to find & I had to travel a fair distance for 2 of them. I bought them to ride & experience but, at least here in Australia, there are opportunities to fix & flip a bike for a profit if you have patience & are willing to travel for the right deal.

Another tip, skip that "black back" and use a cheap ceramic coating solution for the black or matte plastic parts. It will make it look like new and last for a year or two. My mt09 still looks like new even after 50k kms and 6 years of ownership. Dont overdo it though as it will looks like a mess

my 2ct: very clean bikes are a great but probably expensive buy and very filthy bikes tend to be a good buy here in germany. guess all that oil and grime prevents rust just as good as wax does. try to avoid the middleground (washed often but superficially) though :D

Great premise for content. You are creative but organised enough to actually get it done. Shame bike wasn't a bit more modern as feel like you could have reset the service light with a cheap canbus controller, but guess pre euro 5 standard could take some reverse engineering. On a side note, I don't love the industry around ECU flashing and closed source soft licences sold via websites that look like they are from the 90's. But the communication protocols themselves are really interesting, so maybe some DIY tuning or even just on board diagnostics could make for future content.

It's not the price of the bike is low, just that the ZAR currency has weakened so much that its devaluing everything across the spectrum.

BMW offers all of there motorcycles with the premium package. Which includes carbon fiber parts to lighten the bike.

Cool Series, was entertaining to watch even if GS's are really not my cup of tea. As for every second bike you see on the road is a GS, same in Germany lol I really don't see the appeal of a heavy, huge and expensive motorcycle. Of course everybody likes different things and theres a bike for everyone. Is the shop assistant kitty better after the vet trips? Whats his / her Name and where would he / she go on the scoreboard :D

On my bmw car there are two terminals in the connector port that you can connect as a short and it’ll reset

Don't use the green Scotch Brite on anything shiny. It will ruin the surfaces. White version, like the bathroom sponge back, is nearly as efficient but won't scratch...

It's a shame that you didn't get more for the bike than you paid for, despite all the work. On the other hand, I'm glad that your experience with the sellers is very similar to mine here in Germany. Unfortunately, it's not worth putting a lot of work and love into a motorbike and expecting someone to honour it. You still get the usual requests like "I'll come straight away for half the price" etc. For a fair deal, you have to wait a long time for the right seller who has a similar mindset, bringing an appropriate level of respect and knowing something about mechanics . Should check the fuse for the ABS. I had the same problem when I bought my mt09, the fuse was missing.

I'm not a BMW fan, but boxer engines are one of the best sounding ever made. Doesn't matter if its in a Subaru, Porsche or a GS. Maybe you're just too used to aftermarket exhausts, which this bike doesn't have?

I agree on the Subaru point but more cylinders help. Two isn't up my street lol. I've ridden the 1250 with an Akra and it doesn't help.

Yeah wtf are you on did you ever heard GS? One of worst sounding bike engine, regardless of pipe. The best sounding is ktm950 LC8 with akra pipe, and that's not an opinion that's a fact 😅

in most areas people flipping bikes is there new hobby because everyones hobby has to make money its why you see used bikes posted near sticker price all over. this was a viable tactic 5-6 years ago but not anymore.

Yeah the only thing that needs an “annual” (which is really every 2 years not annually) is the brake fluid which will start to degrade, other than that just keep riding
