From Rock to Iron Ore Pellets in Gällivare/Malmberget

Welcome to LKAB in Gällivare and Malmberget!
From the mountain, more than a 1,000 meters below the surface, iron ore is extracted, ultimately becoming high-quality steel that builds our society. The journey involves drilling, blasting, and loading in the mine, followed by sorting, enrichment, and pelletising in our processing plants above ground, before finally being transported by train on the Malmbanan and by boat from the port in Luleå out into the world.
This is also where our transformation will begin. We are gradually establishing processes for the products of the future-carbon dioxide-free sponge iron based on technology utilising hydrogen produced with fossil-free electricity. We will also extract apatite, rare earth elements, and other valuable minerals that, with new technology, can be refined and used to produce food, store energy, and build new homes.
