I love your videos. I don’t get on You Tube as much as TikTok. I really benefitted from watching you work on a mirror frame. You crack me up I’ve been doing mirrors lately. But this! Wow! This was something else! Keep up the great work and inspiration. God bless! ❤❤❤

Turned out very nice! You can use tabletop epoxy to stabilize rotten wood as well. It will sink in and make it solid again. I just keep applying it with a paint brush until it stops soaking in. Makes for a very stabile, strong peice that wont twist or worp either.

Poppin cherry time... making my very first remark on any KZbin channel, ever. You should be proud! Anyhow, I don't do much while I'm creating absolutely everything I do, from the ol dome cap and recycled or repurposed finds. More accurately, I'm broke, can and do over engineer the shit out of anything and habitually find myself doing anything to prevent my falling in any of the rabbit holes in my mind. Not only are they plentiful, but they're all terrifying and just not so much fun. Your imagination, thought process, and impeccable choice of vocabulary...all brought smiles to my face and shined with inspiration in my life. Thanks! My personal opinion, you're pretty fucking RAD. Well done and keep on keeping on...I'll be watching!

Ingersoll Rand die grinders usually require a compressor that can maintain 23 - 28 cfm at 90 PSI or better. All pros who do live edge tables use nylon brush wheels and cups to remove a majority of the nasties before any sanding takes place. If the wood is soft and once most of the really gross stuff is brushed out, some of these specialists apply one or two THIN coats of wood sealant to firm up the surface.

If I have any general advice about which tool to use, it's this: The best tool is the one that works for the job. This whole video is an illustration of that simple truth. Look at the process: Remove chunks of rot with one tool, then switch to another when that tool stops being the best one for the job. And that includes just running air over it: Shop vac, leaf blower, compressor with one of those little straw nozzles, etc. You just rotate through until the job is done. For example, my old house is 100+ years old, and it has a concrete porch that has been painted multiple times over the years. A lot of that paint was absolutely baked on, yet enough wanted to peel away that it soon ruined any fresh paint I tried putting on top. I ran all sorts of tools over it: wire wheels, scrapers, and lots more. But sometimes I'd just blow compressed air on a stubborn spot, and that would lift up a huge piece of paint that couldn't be removed with tools that seemed like they'd cut through steel. The best approach was to alternate methods with several tools. There wasn't a magic tool. The right tool was the one that did what the previous tool couldn't. Sometimes you just have to cycle through 3 or 4 different ones. Fun fact: Any tool can be a ball gouger if you use it wrong enough.

Air compressor die grinders don't have as much power as a corded die grinder. I found that straight die grinders are easier to control and work with when carving wood, as well.

A very interesting piece of tree, thanks for this video. What a lot of work! It did turn out very impressive-looking...altho I think it would have looked better with a more natural, not shiny, finish.

That’s another awesome looking piece dude, great job! It would totally be a perfect fit in some high end Manhattan penthouse. And that was a ton of work, $900 is definitely a ridiculously cheap price for the time, effort and materials/tooling/consumables you spent on it. Its gotta be like $4/hour 😂 For the air die grinder bogging down, I think you had the right thought about the air compressor not being up to the task - I am not an expert, but I believe die grinders are the most air hungry pneumatic tools. But from experience I can say that an electric die grinder is able to do a ton more heavy duty work, although they are considerably bulkier.
@DieTrying134 ай бұрын
Thanks dude! $4 is probably pretty accurate. Hahaha! I’m going to look into the electric die grinders. Thanks! When I looked up the King Arthur stuff, I actually found an interesting tool. Kind of like a mini angle grinder with all the disks for carving. $350 though. May end up being a future buy. We’ll see

That's sick! The allure of getting $500 for something you made can be hard to pass up, but I think it's worth more than that. You made the right choice in keeping it. That was a hell of a lot of work. Ps, rip your lungs 😄

Hahahaha! I agree! I need a mask/safety glasses combo that doesn’t fog up. I feel like I need to protect my eyes with that angle grinder but whenever I put on a mask, I can’t see shit. It’s so annoying. Any suggestions?
@DieTrying134 ай бұрын
Also, thanks!!!
@gennadiykatsman6744 ай бұрын
@@DieTrying13I used to have a paintball mask with a ventilation fan which worked wonders for preventing the mask from fogging up. I don’t see safety goggle manufacturers doing anything like that - but maybe it’s because it would potentially be blowing the junk flying around right into your eyes. 😂 But if you want to look into it, I see that Amazon has Airsoft Goggles with a fan for $20.

Couple things I would have tried and will be trying in a project I’ve got coming up using wood from hurricane Ian. At least one bench if not 3 or 4. Also I’ll be making some coasters from the wood (Casuarina equisetifolia, commonly known as coastal she-oak, horsetail she-oak, ironwood, beach sheoak, beach casuarina, whistling tree or Australian pine) I don’t know how long you were in the garage or what the air was like but a respirator or at least a mask would be called for with some of the dust I saw. Also instead of using sand paper what about a medium like baking powder? I’m going to try the powder to get into the small spaces and a grinder on the rest of it. Anyone got a good video on flattening a log or cutting something that’s basically half a log into a “waterfall” 90 degree angle to grain match it?
@DieTrying133 ай бұрын
Thanks! Every time I wear a mask with the glasses, they completely fog up. It’s so annoying. I need to find another alternative. Also, I have a few videos where I flatten a log but check out the fireplace bench video I did. I also have a short showing how I did it

Try getting some “wood hardner” from Ami wax, I believe, and spray a coat or 3 and it will harden the pithy wood and help with further deterioration. It’s worked sir me on soft wood, might work for you. And I just heard you mention it. Listen to your dad - he knows best. I hunk they even made a TV show about that…..LOL
