Not only a great photographer, but so generous as well. So many good photographers on the internet who won’t show others the details of how they achieve their final images. Have been following you for a while. I will download your book, and know it will help me, but the final part of the puzzle will always be, for all of us, our innate level of creativity. Kudos, Adrian.

Thank you SO much, Larry! I do hope the book helped you and you learned something from it, but as you said, it all comes down to what we do with the power and knowledge we have. I hope photography gives you the joy it gives me and that you can create what you envision in the field! Thanks again.

Bravisimo. Your comparison with writing struck a chord with me, not only because I love writing in all its styles (I sometimes do technical writing for work, taught academic writing and sometimes creative writing, but also because for me, the post process is about conversations with my files, with the images I made. It is all about language. I so agree with your assertion that pre-visualization is key (I think of it as seeing the way my camera sees), but I cannot pre-visualize, especially not after my concussion 5 years ago. (I have never had much of a visual imagination; I follow my feelings based on what I know about art principals and what appeals to me.) But even without my internal visualization, I still have some idea of how my camera sees, depending on what lens I am using and, during post, depending on what the files tell me they want--or don't want. I eventually find myself looking at a finished photo that speaks to me, and if the conversation went well, to others. Great video, as always.

I love that translation of Beowulf by Heaney. Very rich and readable. To push you metaphor a bit further, like Heaney, your work as an editor is that of being a translator. You try to remain faithful to the original text of what was there at the time of image capture, while allowing for your own interpretation. Another photographer (translator) could have started with the same image (original text) and wound up with something that likely would have been quite different. There are lots of versions of Beowulf.
@aows
@aows 2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! Even the same photographer can start with the same image and end up with very different results depending on when they work on it. I'm editing some of my older images in different ways than I did in the past, just because I've changed. Same could be said for translations, I'm sure.

I found a similar motive with a stream leading towards a mountain top from Einunna River by Klemetbrua Bridge from Einunndalen Valley in Norway recently. I made one good image with a fast shutter speed, but the one with a long shutter speed has a too long shutter speed. I'll go back there in October. Can really recommend Einunndalen Valley and the Eastern part of the Rondane Mountains, from where our national painting "Vinternatt in Rondane" is from. I ordered 5 nights in a cabin at Rondetunet for October. Hope to walk some valleys and if the weather is good to enter some peaks as well:-) I recommend you to go the axis from Eastern Rondane by Einunndalen Valley, then to Ottadalen Valley to Sognefjorden Fjord. We move to France, but my goal is to photograph down this axis before the invasion of wind turbine plants. Nice if you could help me, as the only way to save these landscapes for the future now is through photography!

@@aows That's so good! I really think you should start at Rondetunet Holiday Centre and work your way to Ytre Sula in Sognefjorden Fjord. Be sure to make a sidetrip to the Tverrådalskyrkja Mountain and the Geiranger Fjord. I read up on the area around Rondetunet now, a fantastic area, with the largest canyon of Gudbrandsdalen by Dørafallet. On the other side of Rondane make sure to visit Vesleulfossen Waterfall. From the summer Utladalen Valley with Vettisfossen Waterfalls was awesome. But nothing beats Skjolden! I will make a last effort to stop wind power and to make the governments build a real urban village for me and my girls there in the famous Dragoon Style or Dragestil, the only true Norwegian architectural style, which most architects despise. I'll try to meet you at Rondetunet to give you a briefing about the area!

There's a course eon linked in learning called something like how to print in black and white. It focuses on not just the printer that's the small aspect of it but how to edit the photos to get the best tonality possible in Ur images. Once you can get the best with the numbers I think then you can move onto this creativity based approach.
