In 1989, New Orleans-born author Anne Rice appeared at the Festival in an interview by Dr. Kenneth Holditch. She shares the influence of New Orleans on her writing, writing as different personas, writing about sex, and how she began Interview with the Vampire as a short story that continued to grow into the novel that became so beloved.

Thank you for uploading this wonderful, earlier talk. Anne is just so stunning, brilliant and humorous! I did find this last Saturday and was sad to know the news, Sunday. She is my favourite author and I have been reading her novels since many years. Nevertheless, she leaves an impressive legacy and her fiction and wisdom are still to be discovered by many. She has reached Immortality!

The Feast of All Saints and The Witching Hour are the best. I also like Lasher, and to a lesser extent The Vampire Lestat and Tale of the Body Thief. The rest I could do without. But I adore those first two I mentioned, which are love letters to New Orleans.

So, instead of the director of Alien and Blade Runner, they went with the director of The Company of Wolves and the Crying Game. Then Rutger Hauer ended up playing a vampire in a Joss Whedon project instead of an Anne Rice project. Not that I'm complaining. I still love the movie we got, but looking back now, you can't help but think about an alternate world where studios *listened* to Anne Rices' decisions. Still, given the direction Ridley Scott was going with his Alien franchise with Prometheus and Alien Covenant, maybe it was for the best that Neil Jordan was chosen instead. In the meantime, though, 😔🌹RIP, Ms. Rice. You may be gone, but your name shall be immortalized with your books.
