I saw DT, Devin Townsend & Animals As Leaders in their Dreamsonic tour recently. I went primarily to see Devy but also looked forward to seeing Dream Theater even though I wasn’t a *huge* fan, but I do like & appreciate them a lot. It was very cool, but I don’t care if you’re (fill in name of your favorite group here), it’s tough following Dev as an opening act. Sorry to say, LaBrie’s voice is showing some of its age, which REALLY showed during the encore where Dev also sang. The band is tight as ever. I traveled 500 miles (didn’t walk it, that’s another song altogether),spent maybe $300 over 2 days just to see Dev play for 45 minutes. Then got the bonus of seeing DT as well. Worth every penny. I guess I said all that to say that this is my favorite DT song by far. As soon as I saw this posted, I clicked on it immediately. Thanks again Jim for another great reaction!

DT's "Count of Tuscany", which they played on the Dreamsonic tour, is reminiscent of this one as well.

@@theangryhog As far as length goes, sure. As far as quality goes, not even close. I really tried to like "Count", but the lyrics & story were frankly monumentally dumb. Unless I am missing some subtext I am unaware of, the plot is "I met a couple of weird brothers, for some reason I started fearing for my life but everything was fine.". I am not trying to be mean here, that is my honest take on it. Sorry if that ruffles anyone's feathers, really. If I am wrong, please tell me. I do want to know because as of now, it makes no sense.

@@lananiella I agree, they lyrics to Count are a little...weak. But that whole album is comprised of songs written about true stories. John Petrucci actually did go to Tuscany, met a guy, rode with him to his fancy house, met his brother, thought he might be killed, etc. The last section of Count ("Could this be the end...") just builds so well and sounds so epic. Something about that chord progression just hits me in the feels.

Oh. My. Stars. First time listening to this. Even with the screaming/almost growling “Stuck inside this Octavarium!” I really enjoyed this. Have you uploaded a listen to the entire album, Jim? I would love to experience it with you. If they did this while I listened to the Dreamsonic tour from the wooded glen, it definitely didn’t hit me like this.
