I don’t know why watching this made me so sad. I am equally inspired by her tenacity in the midst of people trying to discredit her and her intelligence as well as sad at how people treated her so unfairly. If that interview took place today, people would have ripped those interviewers apart. It was biased, sexist and it played into the stereotypes of black women. Thank you for paving the way, Shirley

Direct answers to questions, many of which were tinged with male and racist overtones. Ms Chisholm continuously corrected the “assumptions” and brought the re-statement her point of view to the fore. Watching this I am reminded both how far we have come and how very much farther we have to travel. We could use more good, honorable, strong people like Ms. Chisholm in the world today. We were lucky to have had her.

So many things have changed but so many things have stayed the same in the attitudes of men regarding the role of women, race, conservatism and the fight to maintain democracy in this country. Since this interview we have seen a black man become POTUS and I believe we will soon see a black woman in that role. Never should we forget Shirley Chisholm who laid down the pavers toward this accomplishment.

This program should be required watching in many secondary schools and college campuses. What a different time it was back in 1971 when a person with the integrity and intelligence of a Shirley Chisolm gave straightfoward honest truthful answers and didn't evade or avoid questions which is in stark contrast to today when many poiticians are standoffish, hostile, and don't complete sentences and do not give specifics or clarification about what they really mean.
