I remember well as a young lad flying over these very mountains when my grandmother perfected the spell that allowed humans to soar like eagles, but sadly the power of that spell tended to fade after an hour or so - my older brother did not heed that, and he crashed to earth on the Celtic Crags north of Hethelberg. Mind you, my great grandfather, before he died peacefully in his bed, told me fables of an ancient race with magic even more powerful than ours, whereby men could fly in magic tubes of iron all day, even to the ends of the world, from castell to castell anywhere in just a day. They could even ascend to the moon itself, on broomsticks like ours, but that poured forth sacred fire from the rear. They did not even need to fly this way, for too they possessed fabulous chariots that, without horse or even gryphon to pull them, could race across heath and mountain faster than a frightened mare chased by hungry wolves. They lived in cities of ten thousand shining swords, swords of glass and iron that reached the heavens and yet never rusted, and shone forth in the evening twilight, lit by myriads of tiny bottles that even common men would stick in the rafters of their huts and make light brighter than the Sun all night long. From these huts they could see the whole world upon small boxes about the size of a goose, like the scrying glasses of our wizards today, but these magic boxes contained spells many many times more powerful than ours. They did all this magic with a black essence of Erthe, which we no longer have because back then these men abuseth the Erthe and she giveth her essence no more. Far from making peace with Erthe, these foolish men fought each other for the last few remaining drops, and they did battle with terrorous catapults of magic suns, that hurled missiles hotter than a thousand thousand fires, that could destroy a city faster than a hundred armies. Then their fabulous cities melted like frost on a warm Spring day, and, so say our sages, one future day we might yet build such fearsome catapults again, if we dig deep in the mountains below even the realms of the Demons where can be found the magic metals to make such things. May that never happen in my lifetime.

@@joemcdermott1213 What happened next was our King ruled well and we became wealthy and p[rosperous, but - then he sent out explorers to see what lay across the Iron Hills and east of the Great Sea of Rhun, and perhaps even south of Harad, where legends told of fantastic lands with great riches and gemstones, rubies the size of a cat and emeralds the size of a dog, yes and even diamonds as large as a full grown blackbird or more. For some ancient historians of our past wrote of mythical lands that had fought this War of the Magic Suns, and they included such places we know yet nothing of, like Amrika, T'shinar, Rhossiya, Ookrayna, and especially of great allure Hind'yar. T'was indeed Hind'yar, a fabled land where it is said the finest silks are so cheap that men line their chicken coops with them, where they used huge amethysts as windows and corals as bricks, that land which was said to lie east of harad and south east of Rhun, that our explorers sought. But what did they find? Some eldrich far-lands that yet also had legends of those fearsome war catapults just like ours, lands calleth Thibet'yan, and Tannu Thuva - and they too had legends of a yet further land calleth Bholiv'yar beyoind some Great Eastern Edge-world Ocean which no man hath ever yet seen. Sadly it seems we may yet need our war weapons once more, for these distant lands also want the great copper and iron mines of these Iron Hills, as our kings want their silken tapestries and jewels. Now let us see whose magick is more powerful out on the Plains of Jousting, around the Great Inland Sea of Rhun.

Gallia... That's France's grand-mother !😮😮
@wed2777
@wed2777 9 ай бұрын
As a French historian...well no Gallia is a word used by the Romans to refer to peoples (like the Venetians or Helvetians) living beyond the Alps (Transalpine Gaul) and those living in northern Italy (Cisalpine Gaul), but these peoples didn't consider themselves to be “Gauls”. It's a misuse of language by the Romans, used in today's political discourse to create a national romance. For example, it's like saying “the English” when referring to people living in the United Kingdom. It's false and reductive; there are also the Welsh, the Scots etc... It's very interesting to see all the different peoples who have built France and the other bordering countries

Epic and masterly as always, including the visuals. The landscapes seem to be from all over the world. I identified e.g. the Dachstein mountain and Lake Gosau (Austria) at 3:25 and 6:51. The mountain at 1:08 and 3:55 could be Plattkofel in the foreground and Sella group in the background (Dolomites/Italy).
