The Great Lady of Folk Song - Vangeliō Christia
Vangeliō Christia left an indelible mark on Greek culture with her voice and personality. Born in 1945 in Vonitsa, Aetolia-Acarnania, Vangeliō developed a love for singing from an early age, blending her passion for music with life in the Greek countryside.
She grew up in a family that faced poverty and hardship, but this did not deter her from pursuing her passion. From her early years, she could be found by the sheep and in the fields, singing incessantly. Even at school, her voice shone, with her teacher recognizing and encouraging her.
Vangeliō did not have the opportunity to take music or vocal lessons. However, with the help of her father and her exposure to great instrumentalists of the time, she was able to develop her talent self-taught. At the age of 24, she moved to Athens to pursue her dream, and at the age of 28, she began to pursue folk singing professionally.
Her path was not easy. She faced many difficulties and adversities in the music industry. However, her love and passion for singing kept her going. With determination and dedication, she managed to establish herself in the industry and gain the appreciation of the public.
Today, retired but always faithful to her love of music, Vangeliō continues to sing. For her, singing is not just a profession, but a source of life and happiness. With patience and love, she continues to share her talent and energy with the audience, expressing her gratitude to those who have supported and loved her.
Vangeliō Christia is more than a legend of Greek folk music. She is an example of devotion, passion, and resilience, who through her voice reminds us of the value of tradition and the knowledge that is passed down from generation to generation.
