I wonder if there were ever Turkish dubbed home releases of the original trilogy. I think maybe on VHS?

Most regions ditched full screen with the embrace of DVD. Really only North American releases tended to have full screen releases, which would also make sense since that would also mean one less home video release to localize. As for the strange language options, my educated guess is that only two encodes of each film are ever made, one for NTSC and one PAL, and these encodes are identical across all releases down to the bitrate, and the audio and subtitle options are simply switched out accordingly. While this makes the localizing pretty streamlined, it also puts limits on the specifications. The US DVDs mostly had five audio tracks (English 5.1 and Stereo, French, Spanish, Audio Commentary) and five subtitle tracks (English, the translation subtitles from alien languages, and one clarifying who's speaking on the commentary track), and so the international versions can't have many more than that without making changes to how the disc is mastered.

Region 2 will still play here. You can get region free players

Yes, but without a region free player, someone with a Region 1 player couldn't play it, hence always trying to mention a DVD's region if it's not R1 (the main show focus).

@@ChronoRadio tbf, I never understood the point of regions. It's a useless way to divide the market, sometimes even limiting your customers. However, I still find it weird that cheaper DVD players play them regardless of region
