Haydos was my fav batsman growing up. I remember how he struggled in England in 2005, and was dropped from the ODI side for 18 months before this series - he only got a comeback coz Watson was injured and Katich wasn't there. Remember following this innings right from the start, had he not made this hundred - he might not have made it to the CWC 2007 squad - where he simply bludgeoned bowling attacks. BTW, Oram was superb in this game!

K K Yes This match was his last opportunity heading into WC. His form was the most talking point from the beginning of the series . He struggled in this match too until Daniel Vittori dropped a catch at mid off / on and he never looked back ! What a form he carried into WC and became the highest run scorer of the series

K K Yes they had 40 degree weather in Perth in the afternoon and they got rain interrupted at the evening plus Jecob Oram made a heavy damaged on the Australians confidence / form at the end of this match. Even though Aussies won this game against NZ ,this brutal innings was kind of the beginning of Australia’s series lost in home and also the 3 match one on one ODIs in NZ followed by . Actually I thought Australia was gonna miss the WC but they proved me wrong with 100% winning record in WI and that was the beginning of the end of Australian dominant era of all time with the retirement of Glen McRath , Warne Langer etc ! Since April 28/2007 Certainly Australia hasn’t never been the same ! Hayden, Symonds started loosing their primes, Gilchrist suddenly retired within a year after dropping a few catches ,Bret Lee , Tait , Bracken injuries , Ricky Ponting wasn’t able to do the same in 2011 WC as expected !

Not sure how much of Hayden you've watched, he wasn't much of a advancing down the line batsman (unlike Ganguly) to be honest. Evident in this video too. He was a natural power hitter.
