We are in the same situation in the UP/Straits of Mackinac as far as being a tourist area with a lot seasonal jobs. Housing is an issue. There are little to no affordable private rentals if you have a family or pets. Employers have to provide dorm style housing for seasonal workers. I’m lucky to have a year round Tourism job. My husband works for the State Park but is laid off from deer season to late March/EarlApril.

Also, people don’t always want to work 6-7 days a week on the summer and then rely on unemployment in the winter which is only half or less of your salary.
