Hi Debbie- We just got back from 4 weeks on the road with our new PW Ontour 2.0. I want to thank you for this video. I packed just about everything you have here and it worked out spectacularly! Thanks again for all your tips! I'm hoping to tackle the warm windows while we are home before we head out next. It will be a relief not to have to deal with the reflectix storage, install and uninstall! BTW, the bowl cozies are super easy to make!

one kitchen tool you have but didn't mention is a Faraday Cage, commonly known as a microwave, which you did mention. If you are in a lightening storm put your electronic devices in there for protection, phones, tablets, cameras etc.

My favorite kitchen camp items have been Magma’s nesting pots (7 piece induction), but Ingenio (all SS) also has a small set of 3 which are cheaper and can be used with the Magma. The Magma handles will last longer I think. For us who camp in a variety of ways - usually setting up kitchen outside with other families, my waxed canvas utensil roll from Campcraft Outdoors has been THE single best camping purchase EVER! The flap folds over and snaps so it can hang on the side of my lifetime counter height table or on a branch or towel bar. I had them add another pocket so I have 5 pockets and a couple extra loops with S hooks allows me to hang Lunatec wash rag and quick dry towel…or more longer BBQ utensils. Between the nesting pots, the utensil roll, and my Joseph Joseph nesting containers (w/ coordinating coloured snap lids) my “one bin” kitchen goes anywhere - trailer to outside - all in a Front Runner wolf bin.
@SMafam5

And I am able to nest a set of six SS MSR bowls in the 2L pot and 6 SS plates under the sauce pan “lid” of the magma 7piece set so it’s our dishes and the pots all in one. We are a family camping with other families but helpful for small campervan storage ideas. I enjoy Stainless Steel because it’s indestructible and I can throw it in the dishwasher when I get home.

I heard you say that you have plastic containers for the microwave but you would like the smaller containers which they do not make anymore. I use the same containers but my are green containers, green means vegetables, fruits, tomatoes keep longer because they have a natural substance that when vegetables release a gas it is absorbed by the container. Amazon carries a set by Debbie Meyers with larger containers and the small ones too. The 64 oz,24oz ,16oz, and the 32 oz which is like half of the 64oz the lids are more secure than your blue containers. I microwave in them, freeze food in them then put them in a vacuum bag. They are very sturdy containers with many uses, I have two sets in my rv, and more at home. I can keep carrots, celery for weeks. Love them.

A little helper hint, for the faucet. I have a Pleasureway Plateau with the same faucet and it sometimes drips. So I slipped a srong rubberband over the faucet neck and down to the handle and pulled it over the handle adding a positive pressure to keep it tightly closed. You don't even have to remove it to use the water. It also saves using too much water.

1 - Rubbermaid Commercial Products FG1962000000 High Heat Silicone Spatula, 9.5", Red Handle - I have the larger version in the house - this one is just the right size in the van and it is sturdy. 2 - Just discovered how handy it is to have a cutting board with an incorporated handle. I jigsawed and unused board (20*9" - 5" handle). Serves as a cutting board - grab and dump in a pan, cheese serving tray, and a general tray, lap tray for laptop work or eating outsiide. The handle does make a huge difference in its overall usefulness - who would have thought. 3 - Instead of a cast iron pan try a carbon steel pan. Almost a cast pan but lighter, heats up quicker and IMHO better. I got this one Matfer Bourgeat 62002 062002 Black Steel Round Frying Pan, 9 1/2-Inch. Better crust on a steak/pork than cast - by a long shot!!!

Hmmm. I am searching through my videos and not finding it. But until I do, I made it from an insulated curtain I bought from Target and it hangs from the cab shelf with velcro. It's always nice to see how with use, thinking changes. If you are a camper once seasoned, I believe you will find that skillet to be a BIG benefit. There are many videos and even cook books just on using the iron skillet. It can be used on the open fire, to the oven and on a convection cook top. Explore the possibilities ! Thank you for sharing.

Oh, about that instant coffee. You really should try this: AICOK Single serve coffee maker with one-touch buttons for most single cup pods including K-Cups. About $40.00 on Amazon. It's a no fuss, no muss solution for a really good cup of coffee that brews in a minute or so. It plugs into 120V and pulls pretty low amps; about 8 or so I believe. 12 oz paper cups are perfect. Just pop in a pod, pour in 12 oz of water from the cup, put the cup in place, and push start. A minute or so later you have a nice hot, good cup of coffee. For clean up, just remove and toss the used pod. When finished, I like to run a cycle with just water to keep the area clean where the pod goes since that area does not come apart. There's a zillion blends of coffee to choose from, but my favorite is the Green Mountain Nantucket Blend. Now, of course, with all that other kitchen stuff you've got, even though the AICOK has a really small footprint, you may have a challenge finding a storage spot for it :)
@FromShetoMe
@FromShetoMe 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I had never heard of that brand. I really wish they made one that you could put a giant insulated mug underneath. All they need to do is to make that bottom tray removable. What I didn't mention in the video which might have caused a serious revolt, but we both drink decaf. My stomach can't handle caffeine and John's doctors have ordered decaf for him. That really limits our options for varieties which is a bummer. Since you have an Ascent, you know how limited we are in space. But I'm always open for ideas/suggestions so keep 'em coming.
@skipsteller1908
@skipsteller1908 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, the drip tray does come out, and I leave it out and just use a folded tissue because the tray is more trouble than it's worth. But the base that the tray sits in is not removable and nothing much taller than a 12 oz paper cup will fit. But they do have decaf k-cups!

Hi Debbie, thanks for this great video on storage of kitchen tools. I'm purchasing several of these items through your links. What is your recipe for groats? I'd like to try it. Thanks
@FromShetoMe
@FromShetoMe Жыл бұрын
Funny you mentioned groats. They stopped carrying them at our local market . Guess I'll have to order on line. Best way to make them is to do an overnight soak. I don't have a package to look at the instructions but I think it is a 4:1 ratio of water to groats. They soak up a lot of moisture. I think you pour boiling water over them and in the morning you just have to heat.

Hi Debbie, thank you so much for all your good tips. We are also a happy owner of a Pleasure Way RV and we are going crazy searching the internet for your in-sink basket. Kindly please send us the info if you can still recall where you got it. Hopefully, the credit card you used to purchase online still has your record.. Thanks.

Those are spice containers. The video got too long so I cut out the spices. I've actually just ordered new containers that I'm hoping will store more neatly and compactly. I'll include in a future video. Thanks for asking.

Hello:: Thank you so much for all that you share! do you have any suggestions on purchasing a RV Van for a 52 year old, single woman. The biggest thing for me is being able to shower every night. Do you have problems with the water tank you have on the RV van? Thank you in advance!!!
@FromShetoMe
@FromShetoMe 5 жыл бұрын
Showering in a van will be an issue unless you can find someone to do a custom build out for you. We do not use the indoor shower. If that is your priority, then a "wet bath" may not be for you. You might consider a Class C van instead. The tank on a Class B is pretty small. Ours is 18 gallons. We rely on campground showers or our membership at Planet Fitness. In the summer, the outdoor shower is what we would use while boondocking. You might consider renting a van so you can try it out first.

Hi Shauna,If you will be "dry camping" where there no hook-ups (water, sewer, electric) then you will use the on-board systems (fresh water tank, gray water tank, black water tank, hot water tank or on-demand hot water, and generator and batteries for electricity. For showers, you'll want to know how big the fresh and gray water tanks are, the size of the hot water tank (unless on-demand), and how much electricity there is to keep your hot water hot. And, of course, the size and style of the shower space. For a small camper like the PW Ascent, the shower is more of a novelty than anything (we've yet to use it) and when dry camping I'm guessing you'd get 3 or 4 days of bird-bath showers before your fresh water is gone.If you are in an RV camp with hookups for water, sewer, and electric, the Pleasure Way Ascent shower is still mostly a novelty, but you then have endless water, sewer, and electricity for endless showers and don't have to worry about anything much more than the size of the hot water tank (most are 6 gal) unless the RV has hot water on demand..Bigger RVs generally come with bigger everything, including bigger/separate showers. You may want to look at some on-line and at RV dealers to see what the differences are so you can narrow down what better suits your needs space and budget wise. The smaller camper vans are typically more expensive than the medium-size RVs, so going a bit bigger to get a nice shower does not necessarily mean more expensive.For us, we hardly ever dry-camp and all the camps we've stayed at have had very nice showers. Hope this helps point you in the right direction. Have fun looking for your perfect RV!

Thanks for sharing the kitchen tips! When you go to make your bowl cozies for the microwave, be sure to use 100% cotton on the batting, fabric and thread so there is nothing to arc. Also I have similar containers but I like them even better because they are leakproof and have no smell. I bought a few brands to test and most emitted a nasty smell when I opened them. The Rubbermaid Brilliance containers came in a set and I have a use for all of them. This is the Walmart link but I'm sure you can find them in all large stores. www.walmart.ca/en/ip/rubbermaid-brilliance-food-storage-container-small-13-cups-300-ml/6000196208230. I also love the GSI frypan and have the 2.5 qt pot as well. What I like is that the strainer is built into the lid and there are heatproof spots on the lid. Have a great trip!

@@FromShetoMe Glad you interpreted the convection oven part. I am still in research mode, but have changed my mind about RT to PW due to better workmanship. Tending towards the Plexor bc of the convection oven. But glad to know that the famous Instant pot might solve some of the baking issues. It would be awesome if you do a program on boondocking in your H Beach area, if any.

OMG, funny you should mention HB. I just discovered yesterday that the city passed an ordinance in October outlawing all RV parking day or night in the city. I'm on a tear to get to the bottom of this. So as of right now, no matter what kind of RV anyone has (even includes Volkswagen camper vans) they are not welcome. As this develops, I may do a video on the subject.

@@FromShetoMe I hope you can still park on your own driveway for which you pay plenty of property taxes. Any boondocking within driving distant to the strip of beaches from HB to San Diego, would be good info. The state parks like San Elijo in Encinitas are not only outrageously oricey, but almost impossible to get reservations with the new system they have. Would campendium have this info?? Next time you are in SLT, let me know, there are nice places to explore in Truckee & NLTahoe. There is a nice spit to boondocking by Boca Reservoir, which is a couple of miles from where I live. Keping it in mind if I ever go FT. long ways from that, if ever. I think your channel is awesome & down to earth AND the relationship with ur husband appears very refreshing & healthy.
@FromShetoMe
@FromShetoMe 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. We actually drove through Truckee last summer but didn't have much time to explore. Our son may be applying for a job there but that would mean a 45 minute commute. Fortunately, we got permission from our HOA to park on our driveway. I don't know of any boondocking near the beaches. I agree, the State Parks are very pricey. As more and more cities adopt these rules, anyone trying to sleep in their vehicles takes on a lot of risk. The fine here is $200 for the first ticket. In Anaheim it is $79. How is anyone to know whether there is an ordinance or not for parking during the day. We have an annual pass for the State Beaches which is where we usually go. The cities in LA County are not as bad. Long Beach might be a possibility because they aren't quite as hostile. Campendium might be of help but there is also the new Boondockers Welcome membership. If I hear of something, I'll pass it on.

Great tips, I'm gathering things to go into my van, so good to see what someone else has - you've got me looking at Instapots now🙂I've just discovered the RidgeMonkey - they have a new one out, which separates into two pans and has removable handles that store inside along with 3 utensils - eagerly awaiting the arrival of mine. You can also get the utensils for the one you have too - www.pinterest.nz/pin/342695852893572905/ - There is also another that has compartments on one side and you can get a steamer tray for it too - so lots more cooking options now 🙂 Love the microwave/pot holder - would be very interested in a pattern for it - I was thinking something like a table protector felt might work well for the thermal layer?
