I both love and get stressed watching new people try Monster Hunter, cause one hand its exciting see people try it out, but also painful when they don't know certain things you know on instinct. I was yelling at my screen "No, attack the face if your using a blunt weapon like Hunting Horn!" and "No do the full drinking animation for healing!". Like it's both entertaining and stress inducing lmao

I'm hella late to this, but it's fun to see a new player get into the series. One thing I recommend doing whenever you're playing ANY MH game is to just drop everything as soon as the game gives you the chance, go into the training area (if the game has one) and try out EVERY SINGLE WEAPON. Find one or two out of the current 14 (or less in older games) that click with you and go nuts. The more you play, the more you try out different weapon and skill combos, and the more you _learn_ overall, the more fun it gets. Take your time and have fun!

For a new player, don't keep switching weapons, each weapon is very deep in moves and what you can do with them, especially when you still haven't used to "everything manually control" combat in the game. I recommend you pick only one and get used to it first - which could took 10-20 hours before you get efficient with it and familiar with the game

Once I play World I'll definitely pick a weapon and try to master it. They're all incredibly different and change your whole moveset/build/kit/playstyle. Definitely a lot to learn so exciting!

Always change your weapon, if your new or experienced give it all a go, then try something else, then try it again later, play play play.

only until you master a weapon i feel. you shouldn't stick to a single weapon once you have fully mastered it, since opening up to other weapons is part of what makes monster hunter such a replayable type of game.

15:30 There is lock on. But it's kinda bad. Because in MH aiming for specific body parts is important (most prominent example being cutting the tail). So most ppl play with either manual or temporary lock on.

I personally prefer the older target system that's also in Wilds where tapping points the camera at the monster. It allows for a quick camera adjust and you can manually move it from there.

@TheDalisama ye the post 3rd gen lock on system. They had to do that for 3DS lol. I'm a claw grip manual camera user. But if I have to play with Nintendo or Xbox control scheme I think it's definitely better than constantly lock on.

Wilds is more open world... normal monster hunter games are instance base, so you pick a mission and you go on hunt, each mission/hunt/capture has time limit and faints limit before failing quest. When you fail you start over from the home base, you eat, craft consumables, prepare load outs and accept departure for hunt.

The thing about Monster Hunter demos is that they’re not really great at showcasing how the game is really played. Armor skills are so important on most weapons, as they basically alter how capable you are. Some weapons in particular also have unique gimmicks that change between what you craft. Ex. The Kinsect is nurtured to have increased stats, elements, statuses, and damage type. The slow speed in the beta makes it really cumbersome to use.

First time watching you. I’ll definitely be back to see you play the first game. I just wish you would slow it down to understand the mechanics. I know it’s a lot to manage, streaming while trying to to engage with chat but a lot of the questions you kept asking were explained in the game when you would half read and click through stuff.

Oh you're right I was very distracted! The UI was a little overwhelming and I've been told the beta probably wasn't the best place to start. But I began World yesterday and it's been really fun so far!! SO much to learn

To think you got sent to IG, probably not the best starter weapon Sword and shield or long sword probably would have been best in slot for beginners

Especially since you're stuck with the absolute basic kinsect that moves slower than my dead grandma. I usually don't use a glaive until the kinsect has at least 3 speed upgrades.

I'd argue that DB has replaced SnS as the starter weapon for people who are absolutely new to the series to be honest, SnS just has a different approach in teaching new players the actual hard-mechanics of MH.

MH is not like Elden Ring... targetting is mostly for positioning and you will not really "lock" camera to enemies... It seems stupid at first but you will realise that this is much much better and fighting big enemies will not be pain in the ass like fighting any dragon in ER... I hate dragons in ER, I love them in MH

whoever said greatsword is a starter weapon is a liar and should not be trusted Edit: a bunch of people seem to not agree with me on the fact that GS is not a starter weapon the reason why GS is not a starter weapon is because it requires careful positioning to use correctly which a newer player will definitely not know so stop saying it’s a starter weapon because it has a “simple moveset” when the weapon needs positioning to be used effectively

But yeah the Great sword IS a beginner friendly weapon purely because it has the most simple bread and butter combo of all weapons and is just an unga Bunga weapon. Hit thing with big sword and charge sword when monster is big dumb. That said, it also has a surprisingly high skill ceiling. Easy to use, hard to master kind of thing. Same can be said for SnS. Swagaxe is that nice middle ground I find if you want something a bit more technical, but don't want something you need to sit down and study for several hours before you can even think about using it *cough* charge blade

IMO best beginner weapons are SnS, Dual blades, Hammer, Lance, LS (if you aren't trying to i-frame like a pro).

yes this takes so long because HH is a blunt weapon and main use for blunt weapons is hitting head to KO monsters... his ass cheeks are swollen tho...
