My Deere 3520 was a m20 thread that I couldn't find a fitting anywhere. I wanted to run a hose up like you did instead of buying a vented dipstick. So i greased up a 1/2 NPT tap and ran it through the existing m20 dipstick hole. Now it's 1/2 and I have it vented to the airbox. Thanks for your help.

Having same issue with my John Deere 305 loader, just came across your video and it hissed when I opened the dip stick, thinking it’s the same issue! Thanks for the video

2 year later update...... I had a front wheel bearing start to go bad so I replaced the axle seals while I was in there. I still have the vent installed and haven't had any problems with leaks. The vent stopped the leak for 2 years, but it could not help a bad bearing on the left side. The right side bearing was fine and never started leaking again after the vent was installed.

GREAT idea, so many tractors have this problem it seems.

Yo - I've a New Holland 1720 that's been leaking from the front hub just like you showed. I changed the gear oil when I first got the tractor about 7 years ago and it didn't leak at first, but for the last period of time it's been leaking down the tire just like you showed. I figured I'd have to tear the hub apart and was set to do that but imagine my luck to come across your excellent video first up in my research. So out I go and when I pull the dipstick a definite hiss of compressed air. Thanks for saving me a TON of effort here.

Might not fix it, but it should at least slow down

Update: A week later and not a drop from the offending hub. I pronounce it fixed!

I'm doing my seals now, JD 2320.... got a surprise one day when going to the building... 80-90W oil all over the floor. parts were $30

I think it is a great idea. My seals started leaking after making a 1/2 mile round trip to bring back mulch. Only leaks now when the axle warms up, I’ll do the same and keep an eye on the fluid level.

Just going to do the same with my case jx1090u. No dipstick so will have to drill and tap. Great idea thanks.

I agree with you that the casing should be ventilated. I have a ford tractor doing the same thing and took the dipstick out to find a blast of pressure. I think ill fill it up with 90 wt gear oil instead of the thin hydro oil and vent it. If it still leaks bad enough ill change the seals. If it just seeps ill wait till winter to replace the seels. Thanks for this video

I hope it helps. Really slowed my leak down. I dumped some at-205 Re seal in it and it stopped leaking completely.

Gents! I am a New tractor owner and I noticed one side on my mahindra 1533 leaking and I have wondered about the water like multi purpose hydro fluid I keep re filling it with😳 can I drain and refill the front axle with 80-90 Gear lube? Mine has a rubber stopper in the fill port but thicker guild may just help the bleeding😍❤️🇺🇸

@@theusconstitution1776 mine hasn't leaked since. It looks wet but no runs or drops so I don't see the problem with it.

My 2012 New Holland boomer 30 is starting to leak at 270h... any chance part sizes will be similar to Yanmar?

can you tell me the part number off the fitting on the axle?

I have the exact same issue; right front seal, started this spring. I'm about to start messing with and I found your video. Now that it has been over a year, do you have any updates about the oil seal or your modification?

what part number for the breather did you use? Having this issue with my john deere 4100 tractor's front axle and would like to try this out. Been searching online but don't see the one you may have purchased.
@LostSkills3 жыл бұрын
I got it from a local komatsu dealer. You just need a breather with pipe thread.
@Shawn-rq4py5 жыл бұрын
Did you change the seals?
@LostSkills5 жыл бұрын
I have not. The leak slowed way down. It doesn't run down the tire now. It's a check it once a year leak now

Is that axle housing one big room (both Sides) or is it one room for each axle side

It's one big room

I think you need seals. Mine is leaking grease getting ready to replace seal.
@LostSkills5 жыл бұрын
The vent really slowed down the leak. A good opportunity to try some AT-205 swell seal in there. So far it's not leaking, but I am sure I will have to replace the seals eventually. The point of this video is that the seals should not have failed at only 700 hours. So I would recommend venting it to hopefully make the new seals last. All automotive front and rear ends are vented, as it the rear axle of all tractors I have ever seen. It makes no sense to me why the front diff of most compact tractors is not vented. The only thing I can figure is price. It will work for a while, get you out of warranty and then fail. I would expect front axle seals to last for thousands of hours, but they didn't because the case was under pressure
@t.c.bowling19345 жыл бұрын
@@LostSkills l just replaced my left seal. I will upload the process soon. My 790 has less than 800 hours no loader just suitcase weights.

Do you happen to remember the thread size of the axle port? I'm guessing it is an SAE -8 O-ring port, but wanted to see if you could recall. Also, where did you source the little yellow breather filter?
@LostSkills5 жыл бұрын
I do not remember the port size. It looks like about the same size as a #8 SAE. I took the dipstick in the store with me and we matched it up from that. The breather is from a Komastu dealer. That is where I got the hose. Any breather with pipe thread would work. It was a common breather that they had on the shelf.
