Front bits and roof chop - 64 Toyota Stout Build

In this episode I begin by showing the process of removing the front structure and how to duplicate it using mostly a bead roller and shrinker/ stretcher. You will see how critical the patterning process is to be able to make a part that fits up like the original.
I then move onto the roof chop in the front by sectioning the A pillars 50mm. I make sure to stagger the joins for strength.
I then show a little bit of footage from cutting the glass. This was my first time and it was on an old windscreen. It ended up cracking where the glass has the most curve. It will do as a template for now and I've got a new one coming and will try again.
In the next video I'll be making a new roof from scratch. The original roof profile is weirdly proportions and a bit square in the corners so I'm going to make one that flows a bit nicer - stay tuned.

I'm loving this whole project. Such great fabrication and metal working. You clearly have some impressive skills, and I suspect they are continually developing with all these complex curves. I really like how the stout shape is changing in almost every part, but in a subtle way that would really only be super obvious when parked next to an original one. Many years ago I owned a stout for 2 weeks, but freaked out and gave it back to my grandfather when I realised the firewall and under the dash were rotted out. It was way beyond my skills and capabilities. Thanks for sharing the journey.

@@khaosdesign3441 yep, either very rusty or worn out and scrapped. All the true work horses are used till death and then very rare decades later. Eg. Kombi utes, I would love a dual cab split screen, but they were all used as trucks and the rusty wrecks now fetch insane $$.

So much progress! That is just awesomeness right there. Little tip on the way I did my glass. If you use some mold release. You can make a fiberglass pattern for fit up. Also when you cut your laminated glass a little zippo lighter fluid in the cut to heat the plastic between will help it relax. May still crack but chances are better it won't an it opens up the gap enough for easier cut with the razor. Just some thoughts from an old customizer. Stout is coming together nicely.
