You should also place high temp anti-seize grease (non-rubber reactive - Permatex 80653) on the pads where they slide on the caliper bracket as well as caliper slide pins. Thanks for the VID.

Why not torque all bolts/guide pins to spec? don’t you need to lube (high temp grease) guide pins and all points of contact that slide on pads? These brakes may squeak as well as other problems. However thanks for the video. It does have instructional value.

On these cars it's best to replace the rotor and pads at the same time, the tolerances are too low to try and turn them. FCP Euro has lifetime on all parts so next time they are free.
@znismo1
@znismo1 4 жыл бұрын
Why couldn't you say what size sockets you used instead of saying "using the appropriate size.."?? That was stupid. Also use you didn't torque down to spec. If I was paying Joe Schmoe to change my brakes in his backyard then how you did it would be ok but you guys are in a shop right? If I was paying "professionals" to do it you better believe I would want it done the correct way.
@2carpros
@2carpros 4 жыл бұрын
2 things. Literally no "professional" uses a torque spec when doing brakes. As far as the size goes, everyone takes a guess and sees if it is bigger or smaller. Pretty easy.

Thank you for your time and effort on this video. I learned a lot. Your music is a hoot. The information of the video is clear and basic enough to follow for a first time BMW owner who wants to know the fundamentals of how to maintain their car. Excellent tip on comparing the old and new parts. I would suggest mentioning torque specs in a subtitle or audio format.

I open the brake fluid reservoir, and monitor or removed brake fluid as the calipers are pushed back in. No air will get into the system by removing the fill cap. The pad sensor needs to be reset after replacement. I think there is a procedure to do without a scan tool, I just do my with a foxwell.

It also really helps doing the brake job in the spring or summer. In the winter, every part especially the pins are extra hard to remove. Even the wheels are hard to get off. I had to hammer the rotors many times to get it to pop off.

2CarPros My Senior Workmate told me about BMW & Mercedes especially (ABS Locked) and Lexus of Toyota also (check engine light comes ON); when we compress Caliper Pistons. Reason; Brake Fluid goes Reverse through ABS Module which causes ABS Locked or check engine light comes ON. I see them when they compress Caliper Pistons, before they release little Bleeder Nipple. I have seen couple different videos related to this in KZbin and all Compressed Caliper Pistons without releasing the Bleeder Nipple. Please share your knowledge..

Muhamad, which generation BMW are you refering to ? this is a 2007-2013 M3. I never read of anybody releasing the brake fluid bleeding nipple before compressing the caliber pistons. Neither did i read of anyone who got locked ABS problem from this. What you say makes sense though. The only thing i read for other cars is to remove the cap from the brake fluid plastic tank to avoid building pressure when compressing the pistons. My knowledge is incomplete so i don't have an answer.

Nice demonstration - thanks (I've only done pad changes on my Porsche before and wanted to see how it differed as I will soon have to do them on my BMW). Just a though - while zip ties are the choice of professionals for supporting removed callipers as they routinely tend to use a lift, for a DIY at jack or axle stand height I find that just resting them on an upturned bucket is even more straightforward.

@goognamgoognw6637
@goognamgoognw6637 6 жыл бұрын
Did you check you brake fluid level. It sounds like air bubbles (compressable) got into the system. This could be from a leak (that's why they're so careful about not hanging the caliber by its hose) or your oil level got too low at some point and air got in the system. I am no mechanic but i think you should check for leaks. To get rid of bubbles you have to bleed the system until all the old oil is replaced. I once had a similar problem with the clutch pedal but i am not sure on this.

Emergency brake or E-brake is used for Drifting but Parking brake is to stop a vehicle from rolling accidentally while parking.
@2carpros
@2carpros 10 жыл бұрын
You must be confused because you are talking about the same thing. A hand brake for when the vehicle is parked. And your info on drifting is incorrect the professional D1 cars here in North America use a total different setup then a traditional E-brake. The setup on the drift cars has a 2nd set of brake calipers on the rear rotor just for their hand brake system and a separate brake master cylinder.

i think your confusing with the bleeding valve. Removing the cap on the filling tank won't cause air to get in the system and it'll make it easier to compress the calipers pistons.

Great video guys. What brand of rotor did you use for the new ones? Prices for oem or oe rotors are super high, but Bendix makes them for around $50/rotor, but I'm trying to find someone out there who has used this brand before and if so, what was the result. Thx!
