TIP: after putting the new rotor on, put one or two lugnuts as far down as possible to hold the rotor fairly level while installing the pads and caliper. Otherwise it can be difficult to get the pads level while trying to get the caliper on.

Can you give the torque pounds for the 18 mm bolts, T55 bolts, and lug nuts? That was never mentioned in the video. thanks

This was an eye opener, So Thank you VERY MUCH. I"M pinching pennies and the squeal had just started. Asked my 'regular' local tire shop to do the brakes. They previously quoted 250 per axle. They called back with the new estimate of 800+ dollars. I about lost it. I regained my composure and confidence after your video. Ordered Pads which were delivered same day, last night. All in All, took 2 hours due to cautionary inspection of calipers and rotors. it checked out fine. I'll be doing brakes for now on. Will tackle the rotors, wheel hubs and calipers in a few months. I support your efforts.

You forgot to put Loctite on the caliper bracket bolts, and you should of torqued these bolts also. VERY important steps you skipped!

Would be nice to know what tools to use and what mm sockets to use. Every repair video needs a tool list.

18MM Socket for the Caliper mounts, and a size 8-T Torx bit. It is recommended to use impact tools as the locktite will provide a lot of resistance in trying to remove those items. (specific model in this reply, 2001 1500 4WD, 5.3 Liter.

My new pads and rotors squeak louder than whenever I had my old pads and rotors ??? I did not change out the hardware that's holds the pads together (anti rattle clips) could that cause it to squeak loud all the time when coming to a stop?
@2carpros
@2carpros 7 жыл бұрын
Some new brakes will squeak and squeal a little bit if you purchased metallic pads. Especially if the pads were not broken in properly. The old clips should be ok as long as they are not touching the rotor.

one steps he also left out was properly lubricating where the pads touch the caliper pistons the edges where the pads slide and in the caliper slide pins. With special brake parts grease. If you skip these steps it can also squeal bad.

2CarPros From my experience ceramic pads tend to throw off a lot of dust and it gets between pads and rotors and makes noise also Grease the dam Hardware common sense spray it all down with brake cleaner not carburetor cleaner carburetor cleaner leaves a residue brake cleaner does not

Got a bigger c clamp. Did the trick. But after replacing all rotors and pads I'm still getting the same problem I was trying to solve which is a shudder in the pedal while it pushes back hard but only when I come to an almost stop. Also i can hear the pads barely touching the rotors now. I'm thinking only because it was such a tight fit.

@scewston420
@scewston420 6 жыл бұрын
They are in fact not the same cleaning solution carburetor cleaner will leave an oily residue on brake parts the general rule that every mechanic with half a brain knows is that brake cleaner may be used to clean everything whereas that is not true with carburetor cleaner especially on brake parts

i did same thing today but after i came back from the road my master cylinder reservoir how ever you call it was leaking why is that ???
@krob63
@krob63 6 жыл бұрын
If your brake reservoir is completely full when seating the caliper pistons in order to install new pads, fluid will often be pushed out of brake reservoir even though the lid is still on it. It’s not really anything to worry about but you are gonna want to clean up the brake fluid that spilled because it will damage paint and you are definitely going to want to top off the brake reservoir with fluid.
