Front Differential Bad? Or is it something else? 2004 Sportsman/ATP

Bought this Polaris with a broke front axle shaft and it pulled to the left. Watch as I diagnosis the problem.

Front differential (and hubs) ground comes from the meter/gauge which could be a separate issue. You may want to consider grounding the differential coil to the frame directly.

Did you sell this unit? I never saw one with camouflage on it before. I love the early version sportsman 500 ATP. In fact, my daughter just bought one. Handy machines. I see you’re also from Wisconsin and with the knowledge you have I wouldn’t mind taking mine over by you depending on where you’re located.

I just picked up the same wheeler. It runs good and moves but the front cv axles are shot you can feel greese where the boot should be snf bootd are completely gone. Im not sure that the 4x4 works the guy said you got mess with the switch i dont think it works. I ordered 2 new cv axles and im hoping i can fix it. they also have it wired to a car battery in the back of the bed its bujied in im thinking the guy didnt want to buy a new battery that fits it but it seems to work fine im going to put the corrrct battery in it.

Everytime I see that its because the battery isn't charging. So they put a car battery in. I would check the voltage regulator/rectifier to make sure the battery is charging.

What would cause my 4x4 to stay engaged while the switch is off

If the hub fluid hasn't been changed in a while sometimes it sticks. If you go in reverse will it disengage?

I have a fourwheeler just like yours and my 4x4 won't work do you know how to fix it

I would start with checking the ground wires by the wires going to the 4x4 or even add a ground to it. Also check to see if your getting power to the 4x4. 9 times out of 10 its a wiring issue unless the front differential is shot. If your speedo doesn't work...the 4x4 won't either.

Hello. Good video. I have a 2004 Sportsman, AWD works in low and high, shows icon on spedo. I cannot engage AWD in reverse. No icon on spedo. (Yes im pressing the yellow override button) At the connector the spedo is not grounding the the coil in reverse with button pressed. Any ideas on what could be the issue?

I had that problem once. It turned out that the shift linkage wasn't adjusted far back enough to engage the switch on the transmission to tell it, it was in reverse. It could also be a bad ground wire. Maybe add another ground wire to the 4x4.

The cam lobes are bigger. The carb and exhaust is bigger.

500 engine is the same as a sportsman. I have video's on that. What do you have going on?

There is one by the starter solenoid and the rests are up front on the spark plug coil.

I've got a 98 500 magnum 4x4 keeps stripping out the rear axle coupler. Do u have a rear axle or a pinion not available from the dealership. Or is there a upgrade I could use? Thanks for posting this info and always describing the problem

I know it’s a little off-topic, but I have a question. I have a 2005 scrambler 500 HO that has the aftermarket carburetor. I don’t see any markings on it, so I have no idea what brand. Do you or anybody else know the best aftermarket carburetor to get that won’t leak fuel out the overflow? Or how can I stop it from leaking fuel out the overflow.

Hello, I have a situation with my wheeler I was hoping maybe you could help. It’s a 2000 Polaris explorer 400 2stroke It starts and runs at idle but runs hard like bume bume bume. There is no throttle past idle. You push the throttle and it sounds like it wants to suck in more air but the engine doesn’t rev up pretty much at all. It has 90 psi compression which I know is low but you’d think it would still rev up if it starts and runs. I’m thinking it’s got to be electric somewhere it’s limiting the rpm. I checked the etc and the connectors are not touching. I also checked the carb, changed the fuel, and unhooked the muffler. I’m thinking wiring harness, bad ground, bad voltage regulator, cdi?, transmission sensors, gear selector possibly. I know you work on a lot of Polaris’s so I’m wondering if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks

I have an '01 sportsman 500 and was wondering if you have any tips for replacing the inner bendix bushing? It is chipped and quite worn.

You need a bearing puller to get it out. Or heat it up good and get it out that way.

watch all your videos, i have 2008 sportsman 500 x2 bought it last yr run fine at first then kept getting harder to start each time i crank it up, now it want start. could it be fuel pump or something else.

I would look at the fuel pump, The screen gets plugged on the bottom, definitely change the fuel filter and check the injector to see if fuel is shooting out properly. I would also clean the throttle body. Its probably black inside. I did post video's on my 06 I did a month ago.
