i just found out about cssbattle and i'm having a lot of fun with the daily challenges... on the other hand by checking the top results i see people using weird and obscure conical gradients with weird and obscure measure units that make no sense and doesnt even show as correct and still get 100% and at this point i'm pretty sure they're just cheating somehow.

haha, the lowest score ones are a bit crazy to look at. They use every possible trick to reduce the amount of code they're using, and it can hurt the brain to try and understand what they're up to 😆 - If you have a paid membership, there are a few included tools that help minimize things, on top of the wizardry they're already doing

for battle 2, why are classes inside of square brackets [c], i cant find anything on classes inside those on google, i understand when targeting attributes to use [type="submit"] etc but never saw that for classes ?

They weren't classes. They were custom attributes. It's the same as using a [type="submit"] selector.
