Got a young family myself ... my baby boy is only 9 weeks old ... ive been watching a few of these videos online .. really lovin the stuff your doing. I bought a 'jeep' It's not a REAL jeep, It's a Honda CRV (cars are ALOT smaller over here, and ALOT more expensive) I really wanna get myself a Jeep though, Over here they're called Wrangler Jeeps .. But it's literally to do exactly the same as yourself. So I have something for family excursions and also something solid to know my family are safe in day to day :) anyways Stay Safe and keep up the great work ;)

That's awesome! Any vehicle can be an overland vehicle (though there's obv some limits about where you can go with some vs others) but the important thing is getting out there! Specially since your kid is still a baby...the sooner you start the more memories they'll have growing up of all the excursions!

Looks cool but pulling full jerry cans off a roof is the worst. They need to be at waste or chest height at the rear. I recently toured with jerry's on the roof and it sucked balls, getting them on and off the roof, almost killed myself getting them off the roof and tweaked my shoulder and I'm not a small guy. Plus it raises your centre of gravity and creates extra body roll especially on tough tracks.

Looks pretty good. It would seem to me that the jerry cans would hit the bolts underneath? I can't tell how it clears them and from what I can see they sit on the tray perfectly fine...
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland 4 жыл бұрын
Nope. There is enough space on the sides and in the middle. The wavian cans actually curve upwards on the edges creating enough room for the bolts. Front Runner made sure to be clear of them! They're awesome.

Did you put both brackets with 4 bolts in? Do the cans hit the bolts when you set them in the holder? Trying to figure something out for mine as well.
@BaptismOverland

The bolts on the side won't interfere with the cans. I thought it would also but after seeing a couple installs of it I saw it didn't. Theres enough curve in the cans to prevent it from hitting.

So I’m a bit confused, do I need to buy the mounting kit from front runner ? Also I’m suspecting the Jerry cans are sold by Wavian or can I buy those from Front runner as well ? I do want your exact set up myself because I can only mount Jerry cans on top of my roof rack. FYI mine is a Uptop roof rack so slightly different than yours
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland 4 ай бұрын
The mounting kit that comes with it will fit front runner racks. This is an old video and had to fashion my own mounting for it to fit on this rack. I have the front runner rack now. For the cans you can buy that directly fr Front Runner also unless it's not in stock. When I went to buy it it wasn't in stock so I got it directly fr Wavian

Hi man , I noticed you have spout clip on the jerry can, but when you show it on the holder on your rack there is no spout with clip on? anyway, I am curious how you get the jerry can with spout with clip or how you attach the spout together with jerry can ?
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland Жыл бұрын
When you buy the Wavian jerry cans it comes with the spout that clips on easily. It attaches the same way the cover of the jerry can closes the opening. But honestly, it's always a pain in the butt to lift that can with fuel and try to fill the tank. It's way easier to just use a self-siphoning tube.
@ChuongNguyenCGoogle
@ChuongNguyenCGoogle Жыл бұрын
@@BaptismOverland thanks man, great idea to go with siphon hose, i will try it instead of Spout. Using siphon hose can pour/withdraw all fuel from the jerry can , but the spout can’t, it always left a little bit of fuel, I believe
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland Жыл бұрын
@@ChuongNguyenCGoogle Exactly. The only thing about the hose is you have to make sure the jerry can sits higher than the opening of your gas tank so gravity can get to it. But also there IS still fuel left over also with that. After awhile there's residual at the bottom that is just too little for the siphon to get to. It's just the way it is. I actually have a titan fuel tank now that I use instead of jerries (there's a video on my channel on that) and it works out so much better for me.

Did put down a rubber mat down before you installed Jerry can to stop any wear on paint Jerry cans I have the plastic scepter military can love then. But I also was looking for black avian but settle for red until black out again , buy yourself a clear tube with brass fitting for ciphering fuel this way as long as not over filled you can fill up jeep while can still mounted , get zip lock bag to store hose when done who want to take off 5 gallons on top also check out AEV SPARE TIRE FUEL CAN months behind spare tire it holds 10.2 gallons how sweet is that and it comes with ciphering hose if never use you don't put hose in mouth just insert brass fitting in can jerk on hose in and out tank and watch fuel prime itself and also titan makes one for behind spare but I the AEV looks better cost AEV 350.00 titan 499.00 holds 12 gallon get your jeep if you dare for adventure leaving you on edge of your seat black bear pass awaits
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland 3 жыл бұрын
Ok lemme address each one by one lol... Great idea on a rubber mat! I didn’t put it down because the straps that goes over the cans are pretty snug alrdy. There’s no movement so it’s not really scratching things up. I do see SOME rust issues on both cans and holder though As far as syphoning I DO have that clear tube with brass fitting and ball. It’s AWESOME. Allows you to syphon without putting your mouth on it hahaha Here’s the problem...the tube isn’t long enough to go from the very top of the rack all the way to the fuel tank inlet. I’ll look for longer ones or modify the one I have. And it’s stored inside a bag in my Jeep as to not have spillage And I love the AEV spare tire fuel holder but man it’s $! Maybe one day though if I need to remove the cans fr the top.
@BaptismOverland

Also to get that AEV you’ll have to get the AEV tire carrier too. So its not just your simple $350. You’ll need bumper with tire carrier as well

@@jamesray3920 well I’ll say this...soon I’ll want to put an RTT up there so there may not be room for jerries anymore. I started revisiting the AEV idea again lol I’ll keep you all posted if that’s the route I go

Good luck but if you don't have access to welder there are plenty of people shop who do a d to can find pre fab metal 2inch hitch with a flat plate flat plate to make your own mount I have a 2007 Toyota fj cruiser with the expedition one rear dual swing out i love this bumper cost me 3700. Well worth every penny takes about 4 months to get it but with their swing out for tire mount it won't work but a simple fix swap out by buying a pre fab 2inch hitch with flat backing plate then go down to local metal state buy a 1x4inch rectangular tube drill out same holes its a wrap trust me you want that 10.2 gallon spare tank ,very clean hidden behind. Spare saves space I will end up with extra 20 gallons for my overlanding adventures good luck but Bev won't sell you the part that goes in tank for spate I tried so I bought it 700 hit but I didn't care for the end result to me worth it

@@BaptismOverland those jerry can holders cost a ton, where I live, maybe US they are cheap. About $400 my way plus the cans. I travelled Africa in 2018, took a £1200 4x4, which does not look pretty, simple and completely worthless to thug life. I drove from South Africa to Kenya, covering most national parks, no one blinked an eye lid. Next trip planned for this year is going to take me via Turkey to Iran, UAE, Saudi and then into Sudan south ward to Cape Town and then up the West coast of Africa. I have been looking at "sensible" ways to carry fuel without attracting attention. Your clip came up, hence stopped by. Can't find any clip that shows how to carry fuel concealed, if there is such a thing. So, more bells and whistles means u attract unwanted attention. Keep it simple.
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland 2 жыл бұрын
@@dinkaman2160pukka ah I see. Well even still, it's a risk we take. Anything on the outside can be stolen. And we are def not keeping fuel INSIDE the vehicle. The only way to circumvent this is to get an auxiliary gas tank to hold extra fuel but even then fuel can be stolen through your fuel port unless it's locked
