Did this with my wife last year for our anniversary. Well worth it!! Spent the night in Canon City. Not much to do at night, so we went to see Oppenheimer. Nice theater. Good food at the Lost Cajun, too! Bunkhouse Burgers is a locally owned hamburger joint. Really good food run by awesome folks! Cool little town. Their spring flower festival sounds cool. Royal Gorge is close by, too.

Took the train from Chicago to Junction City and we headed west..I was on the suspension bridge over the gorge and was like WOW..Took the "train" down the side of the mountain to the Arkansas River and saw those tracks on the other side and wondered..So cool to find this video! @JustGetOnBoard No doubt, I was only 14 at the time and was impressed. But now..🤩..AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL piece of the great untouched American landscape. My father and I took the Amtrak out to Colorado. Had are own personal two person compartment. The whole vacation was about trains and that part of America. We visited the and road the Silverton Telluride rail line how long to Colorado River, breathtaking views and the Georgetown Narrow Gauge Railroad as well. An amazing Unforgettable trip! That was my 8th grade graduation present

My wife and I enjoyed this ride in 2019 during COVID. The only impact was a slightly reduced menu selection on the train. The skies were smoky from a forest fire outside our hometown (Portland OR) over a thousand miles away. When we "fled" Portland the visibility in the smoke was 200'" (We didn't really flee Portland. You have to get reservations on the dinner train about three months in advance.) Our trip was late enough in the day that we were able to visit the Royal Gorge bridge in the morning. Oh, by the way, did you know that this is a working railroad with about two freight trains daily?

Certainly one of the best railroads in North America for its scenery. The film doesn't do it justice, as the mountains of the valley tower above the river like nowhere else I have ever seen. Add that to the railroads amazingly chequered history of multiple court cases, hired gunslingers and a minor local war over usage rights and it all adds up to a great visit.

Why does the train stop at 52:00 min? Desolate, The train proceeds backwards from where it came?
@vagrantender3 ай бұрын
Because this is only a one route train. It's primarily used for the scenic views since it's impossible to reach by road. So the train reaches its destination and reversed back to allow people to either retake photos or just admire the views again.

@@DalionHeartTTV Not sure if you are referencing the simple train tracks or the gorge itself.... if its the later.... the Royal Gorge is a natural formation caused by erosion from the Arkansas River, the river which is in clear camera view most of the video. Also the scenic train track isn't doing anything, its highways and the like that are far more devastating to ecosystems and cause fragmentation.

Thanks for uploading. I saved this video to my "PLAYLIST" I have titled "LIVE CAMS"...I will run videos like this one on one monitor as I work on my other monitor(s). In anycase, I have a Several QUESTIONS or curiosities.... REFERENCE POINT: 25:30 Time 1) PRIOR TO THIS POINT THERE WAS A SUBSTANTIAL TRESSEL APPEARED TO BE ~75-100ft HIGHER THAN THE TRACKS YOUR ON...IS THAT A SECONDARY PASSAGE DURING WINTER OR A DIFFERENT "LINE"? I TRIED TO FOLLOW THE TRACKS ABOVE BUT COULD NOT TELL IF THEY EVENTUALLY CONNECTED TO THE TRACKS YOU ARE ON... 2) WHAT ARE THE STRUCTURES TO THE RIGHT 1-2 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE @ 25:30 3) 25:30 MARK, CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT APPEARS TO BE A CONCRETE BRIDGE PILING AND I NOTICED A ROAD WAS CREATED ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE RIVER 30-40FT ABOVE THE VALLEY FLOOR... At that point the Gorge turns to the left at ~30'-40' or so... DID THE RIVER FLOOD WASHING THE BRIDGE OUT OR IS THAT AN ONGOING PROJECT? I Hope you're able to record and post scenes of your trips during the winter when it is snowing. Thanks!
@JustGetOnBoard2 ай бұрын
I'll try to answer as best I can! 1) I think it used to be an old road bridge or a trail bridge but I'm not entirely sure. There's a lot of history around this ride. 2) That is a holiday village the railroad uses in the winter. 3) I don't think the river washed the bridge out. I think it might have carried a second track to the opposite side of the river. I think there were two railroads looking to build a line through this gorge years ago. Maybe someone can chime in with more accurate information. I would love to catch this train in the winter! Maybe I'll get back there someday.
