Thank you so very much, I've been nervous about redoing the old flower beds around my house and they are so neglected. But your video showed the steps to do it right and what it looks like from start to finish. And I'm really encouraged! Thank you!

how is it holding up? I would be interested to see if ground shift, no rebar, and the tapping of the limestone for leveling causes it to crack, crumble, or fall over time. I hope that is not the case for yours but I would be really interested a couple years down the line. It looks lovely.
@MissMoyston7 ай бұрын
I have limestones as my edgers and they have algae all over them and cracking 😫 three years later. I only have one layer though. I also have sprinklers that comes on every night so that does not help. Some stones have held up well and others are just falling apart
@mikeswindle29723 ай бұрын
These are all over central Texas as tree borders, flower bed edging, etc. Every single one will crack in time. Limestone also attracts algae and mold due to the minerals in it. If you are going to use limestone, I would seal it with a high quality sealer such as Prosoco Salt Guard or Prosoco Block Guard both being the solvent based version and not the water based.

So we are in the middle of doing ours. This video was the video that gave us the confidence to do it! Thanks for that. We are just about done, but we aren’t sure about the cement or mortar you used. We bought some but think it may have been the wrong one. Which one did you use?

What are your thoughts on using rebar ?
@addisonheddins Жыл бұрын
Its preferred if you want it to last. Depending on the state, the ground can shift around a lot.

What about drainage when it rains🤔
@echoestcs Жыл бұрын
Since I used sand as the base layer before laying down the stone water drains through the sand. After the first heavy rain since setting up the garden then, I checked the soil moisture after a day and it was moist but not damp. So it drains well. If I could do it again I would also add rocks or crushed rocks then a layer of sand the help the draining.
@MrsWhite-jt1gw Жыл бұрын
Not supposed to tap limestone, you level the underlay mortar or sand first. Not the best choice if it freezes.
@echoestcs Жыл бұрын
Can you explain more why? Just so I know. Thank you.
@MrsWhite-jt1gw Жыл бұрын
@@echoestcs It's soft and breaks easily. It is basically chalk. Most masons level the 3 inches of sand after condensing then lay the limestone. Then use a mortar containing a element of elasticity for expansion.
@leekessler9785 Жыл бұрын
It’s fine, I’m a pro landscaper for about 20 years now and have laided 1000’s of ft of limestone chop in mortar. Hitting it with the rubber mallet is necessary to seat it. Normally we use S mortar underneath as well. If you have never done it, leave this guy alone. He’s having fun and trying to help people. I think it came out great.
