Have you any more 80s pro cycling footage Front Seat Media? I'm sure I speak for all when I say we'd LOVE to see more!

Remember the music is from the 80's. And the music is perfect for the Tour. I used to listen to it when I went out ridding. It gave me a push and energy to climb certain hills.
@Sionnach16012 жыл бұрын
Oh God it was dreadful and raucous. Also it's level was far too high in the mix, nearly completely drowning out the commentary at times.

Thank you so much for this precious footage. There are aspects here which I haven't seen in decades. Very find memories as Roche was our darling and it still brings me to tears seeing his fierce class, his tact, his courage, and his suffering. Really wish he hadn't ever gone for that track day meet. He'd have had multiple Grand Tours under his belt now only for that stupid track and even more stupid fixed wheel bike. Anyway God bless Stephen Roche forever. We will always love you and cherish what you did. 👏👏🇮🇪🇮🇪

1987 was a good year for a lot of Irish people. We had Steven, U2 and a good football team.

its Stephen Roche , Its Stephen Roche ! I remember the sound of commentary in my ears - was 8 at the time

1987 was the year in which Stephen Roche added his name to the list of the all-time greats of cycling, and this stage in particular demonstrated all of the attributes that made him absolutely legendary.

Yea i am irish and dont belives for one minute that he was not juiced up , he roach continued to plead that he did not dope even on irish tv ,
@mytyrel4202 жыл бұрын
@@davidfinn9828 Juiced on what? The dosages for EPO in cycling weren't understood well enough yet as far as safety and efficacy are considered, and the few that were experimenting were either getting sick or dying suddenly for no apparent reason. Anything else he could've been using illicitly for an advantage would've been caught in the doping controls conducted at the conclusion of each stage. Of course you're entitled to whatever opinion you want, but unless you've seen some evidence I'm unaware of then your accusations don't carry any weight as far as I'm concerned.
@davidfinn98282 жыл бұрын
@@mytyrel420 i appricate your opinion, and i have no proof but if you watch his apperence on the late late show with walsh asking him if he was doping you know he had to be on some thing , dont get me wrong being irish i loved that he won the tdf , but you dont recover from a hospital bed and not be on some illegal substance , just my 2 pence worth

the good ole 80s, 50+MPH, no helmet, no glasses, 18-20mm tires. We're lucky that so few have died from crashes in these earlier days. The irony is that while equipment is safer than ever, it has also allowed riders to ride faster than ever and push the envelope harder on descents or just in what is now a much faster peleton.

As an Irishman I would have loved Roche to have won this race clean, but that is pure fantasy. We celebrated it in Ireland 🇮🇪 but we knew the ways drugs had already penetrated cycling, even in 1987.

What is with the music? Was it broadcast this way? Totally drowns out the commentary

I don't know what happened. Indurain was a very loyal domestique to Delgado. Then all of a sudden in '91 he was Spain's main contender for the Tour, the Giro and what not.

100% right, Phil Liggetts commentary has to go down as cycling's equivilent of "They think it's all over" And just who is that rider coming up behind? Because that looks like Roche…that looks like Stephen Roche...IT’S STEPHEN ROCHE!!! That gave me goosebumps watching it in 1987 and it still does today.
