Frost Survival is one of the hardest mods available for Fallout 4. It completely overhauls the base game of Fallout 4 into something way WAYYY harder. It includes an entirely revamped metro system, an overhaul to enemy distribution and adds various elements that make the game so much harder to survive in.
Today I venture out into Frost itself to see just how far I can make it. With an abundance of deaths, misfortune and even laughs. Frost Survival is for sure, worth trying out...

The problem I have with pitch black night mods is the enemies inevitably have perfect night vision and can see you from miles away.

Yea you'd have to have like a flashlight and/or night vision mod paired with it, else you just don't do anything at night. I debated for a while if I should keep the weather/lighting mod I have, really liked the weather changes but not so much the darker nights and interiors, decided it was fine with a mod that turns the pipboy light into a flashlight, ended up really liking the setup since it made the game so much moodier

It could make sense if we consider some mutants are nighttime predators, but you would also think a headlamp and night vision mod would be standard for a mod with pitch black nights and nocturnal predators, else no one would travel at night. Could also make the NPCs avoid travel at night and let mutants take the night, giving the player a choice to fight mutants at night or have gunfights during the daytime against NPCs when traveling.

@@xenosaga123456789 The merchants in New Vegas traveled with multiple mercenary bodyguards. So do the ones in FO4 but the NV ones had more and sometimes two merchant groups would travel together. They were pretty competent at defending themselves without being unkillable like the FO4 ones.

I was playing this mod pack the other day was on the surface had just killed a deer for its meat. I look up and then see a figure move at a normal pace ahead of me and into some nearby bushes, raising my rifle I went to look for it and it was gone. Not unusual people and things move fairly fast. So I started to scan the nearby area and nothing. I start searching a bit wider and then saw like 7 ghouls heading my way

Yeah, I just set up FROST last night for a go. The default settings were too brutal. An enemy brushes up against you or you forgot to install an air filter, and your character dives into the grave. I had to use a mod to reset some of the Survival parameters down to easier settings. What's funny is that when I was cleaning up my load order for FROST, I forgot to remove a "street worker" mod. Thus, when you entered Goodneighhbor it was survivors attacking you and scantily clad street workers defending you.

@@goranpersson7726 making every night look like there's the heaviest cloud cover of the year is one of the classic dumb "realism" tropes in these kinds of mods. My person favourite is the player character not being able to find bullets to save their life in the US of all places, but every enemy you meet with a gun will spam shots at you like they had been stocking up for years.

You should play Fallout New Vegas Dust, Frost is based on it and i gotta say Dust completely changes the game almost making it a dreadful insanity not just because its hard to play but also because almost every single person you knew and every faction is now either destroyed or hostile to you making you feel completely alone

The mod is cool, I just don't like how they remove things that Fallout what it is, like energy weapons, power armor, and other things. Also don't like how it force the player to play another stealth + pistol build like we haven't done that a thousand times already.

@@RandomGuy-ci9nt I understand that the mod is supposed to be hard, I just think that the modders achieved that by really unimaginative ways. The charm of Fallout 4 is that you can choose your own weapon and playstyle, but instead of playing around this variety the base game has, the mod simply forces the player to play in one singular way, by sneaking around and melee attacks, which just turns the game into yet another generic linear first-person shooter. If the modder had made this mod for Metro, I would have no problem, but it's kind of a waste when they don't understand what makes Fallout 4 great and just strip all the complication and fun out.
