Feels like Riddles would've put Prodigy on the ropes even harder if he was shield grabbing more. Prodigy seems to like to shield more so so maybe Nair-Grab or Tomahawk-Grab would've helped Riddles get some more % on in the first game and maybe even wouldn't have had to come to game 3 if he played his cards right. (Even though it can be said about both players if they played their cards right lol.)

Another way to short hop is assign 2 buttons to jumps and press them at the same time, which results in easy short hops. As far as inputs, if you look up Negative Edge, it can help utilizing command inputs easier (though doing so in this way always results in the “weak” version of the move”). Hope this helps!

This matchup is trash. Terry is 10x more complicated to use than Mario. I say this not to discredit Prodigy, cuz I know hes legit, but the neutral and disadvantage state of Terry especially against Mario is just terrible.

I think it's more in the players' mind than the characters. Terry can always mix-up his landing but Prodigy knows how to prevent Riddles from touching the ground such as reading options and and covering hard landings

Prodigy is legit but his Mario looks too slow and defensive at the start of the match. Guess he likes to react and punish instead of pressing till he warms up. That's easily exploitable. I need to watch more vids of him going up against more players. See how he does when he needs to take control early on. Smash (except a few characters) is all about movement, speed, spacing, and aggression. You wont get optimal play out of a jack of all trades like a Mario by being defensive in neutral. Beccause defense in Smash is criminally weak. Sure you got a lot of options on defense, but against pros you're only gonna get 3 to 4 hits at most before you lose a stock. Only play defensively when the character is specifically made to be defensive/campy. Villager and Ness being obvious examples. Notice how dominat Prodigy becomes later on. He is playing far more aggressively. Maybe Prodigy was baiting the mixup with his limp early play or maybe Riddles just f!@king lost his head (Riddles was putting out some truly scrub level haymakers towards the end, even dorf could punish that garbo). Or maybe it was a combination of all of those factors...

Defense is awful in Ultimate but it was pretty good in Smash 4 and definitely so in Brawl. The thing is the devs made Shield and (especially) grabs in Ultimate the weakest they've ever been since Smash 64. Aggression has always been powerful but there were at least answers to being oppressed (in Brawl it was powershielding. In Smash 4 it was abusing rolls). Now basically none of that exist so this makes the meta much more lopsided to suffocating your opponent instead of playing out neutral.

Actually, in every fighting game, defensive play is the best option. Then it becomes keeping advantage for as long as possible. Just take Tweek. He plays fairly defensive, but once he sees an opening, he takes it and keeps advantage for as long as possible. Prodigy was probably going for something similar. He’s already a beast in advantage.
