Frostpaw OPAL Animatic/Storyboard Warrior Cats [A Starless Clan]

Description of events within video [if you havent read the books, read the video desc first]: The video starts off with Frostpaw as a kit. Her whole family, Jayclaw, Curlfeather, Mistkit and Graykit are with her. The start to go through their average happy regular normal day when Frostkit comes across the medicine den. Jayclaw diverts her attention away from it and they head back home. Once her family goes to sleep Frostkit sneaks back out. She looks to the medicine den where she can see a crying figure circled by three stars. After, she wipes a tear from her eyes, seemingly confused as to how it got there. She starts making her way towards the medicine den when something frightens her off and scares her in a different direction. She enters the leaders den to find Mistystar in an endless black void, sitting on her stump and watching a sort of screen of all her old memories, many of which are blurry or glitchy. She’s clearly not in great shape even if we don’t acknowledge the eyes. She ends up jumping into the screen and on the other side we see she is healthy and youthful as she was when she was a young leader. However as the video goes on her surroundings and memories become more and more messed up. Mothwing is also briefly featured here. We jump back to her sitting on the stump as if she never moved. Frostpaw attempts to bring her the herbs she requested but is stopped when Mistystar realizes she doesn’t recognize her [brain stuff] Frostpaw runs off. She faces the medicine den again and the same thing happens as before. However before she can reach it, Reedwhisker steps in her way. He’s all stitched up but you can see his wounds in the reflection of the stream he sits beside. He eventually goes into his own song, starting with his death and partial ascent into starclan. He ends up trapped in this place, stitching himself back up. We go into a flashback of his deputyship and his aspirations to one day become leader. He loses his chance but goes on to imagine he didn’t. However reality soon kicks in and we end his song with him creating a fake symbol of leadership for himself. Mistystar appears again and Frostpaw runs back to the nursery. Unlike in the beginning, it is large, dark and cavernous. As she walks through it she trips over Jayclaw’s corpse, though it should be hard to make out in the final video. When she turns back it’s just a root. Curlfeather sits up from the background. In her song, we see her with Frostkit as she grows and eventually when Jayclaw dies. We then see her on the way to the moonpool when she is killed by dogs. Afterwards she claims to be powerless, and is suddenly lifted off the ground like a puppet on strings connected to the stars, scaring Frostpaw off again. Finally Frostpaw makes it to the medicine den, and its entrance closes behind her. She sees that figure again and makes her way towards it. She looks closely and is startled when she sees herself. She turns quickly however at the sound of the three featured cats trying to break in. She clenches her eyes shut and the corpses of the three cats are shown. Frostpaw screams then runs and leaps into her body. The background etc change and she’s back in the nursery with her family, having an average happy regular normal day

A 12 minute long map is quite ambitious, but I like it! The concept, art, composition, and all is so good! It could take awhile to finish a 12 minute map, and by awhile I mean a *long* while, but if you got the patience and time for it I say go for it! Would love to see something like this get completed. Also, having hosted maps before, here's simple but rather important tips in my opinion: 1. SET CLOCK REMINDERS FOR PARTICIPANT CHECKUPS. Hosting maps, I've always had this problem where I'd forget to check on participants on time when I didn't write it down or set a reminder, so it is incredibly important for you to set reminders on digital alarms, actual physical sticky notes, or whatever you use so you can keep up to date with your artists, kick unresponsive ppl, and seem more professional. Since this map seems animation-based for the most part, try to keep the designs simple and easy to draw as too detailed ones can be a pain to recreate and hard to keep consistent. EX: Give the tabbies simplified stripes and not detailedly stripe up their whole body. Lastly, having a discord server is a great way to manage maps, as youtube can sometimes be a bit unreliable. People often leave the discord server as a link in the description of the video, but personally I feel like you should only offer the discord server to participants and delete your KZbin reply to them once they've joined to keep trollers and such out. You think trollers would not be interested in messing with wc maps, but trust me some weirdo busted into my server once and then spammed some inappropriate gifs in general. So unless you're allowing spectators, don't leave it out in the open in the description. (edit: sorry for any errors, a little tired while writing this)

OH MY GOODNESS! OKAY, I DIDN'T NOTICE THE PARALLELS BETWEEN OPAL AND FROSTPAW'S STORY, BUT THIS HAS REALLY OPENED UP MY EYES! You've spent an amazing amount of effort on this storyboard, this is incredible! I have such a soft spot for Warriors horror content, you absolutely blew this out of the park! 1:43-1:53 have to be my favourite part! I’d LOVE to see this map hosted! Even though 12 minutes is quite long for a map, I think you can do it! Just make sure to have some place where you can reach everyone- cause I think 12 minutes would bring lots of parts and it’ll be a mess trying to keep track of everything on KZbin

Tackling this is such a major thing, just the storyboarding alone is magnificent and a large beast. I didn't know jack about what was going on in the new series past Mistystar finally getting to rest, but I was excited just seeing this pop up in my suggestions and throughout the entire video. Which, by the way your storyboarding itself is great. Can't (but will) wait to see what happens with this in the future.

Oh, woah. This is absolutely stunning, you’ve captured the unsettling atmosphere of the original Jack Stauber short film beautifully and it feels so well translated into the story of A Starless Clan. I love these longer form, more discomforting animatics and there is definitely a lack of them in both the Warriors community and the art / animation community as a whole. I’ve only ever hosted one MAP and it was beginner friendly and wasn’t to a set storyboard or script, but I’ve seen a lot of successful MAP projects over the years. The best advice I feel I can give you at this point (if you’re still into the idea of making a Multi Animator Project out of this someday) is to not feel too disheartened if this video hasn’t received the amount of attention you feel it would need to become a MAP. Only a very small percentage of people who would end up participating will have watched this video as it is an animatic and not a MAP call. When a MAP call would be put out for the project then there will be more attention from prospective animators and therefore a higher chance of getting it completed. I would, however, advise you to start with creating a smaller MAP before attempting a project on this grand a scale. I’ve learned a lot about writing rules and participant communication just by hosting a MAP with ‘lower stakes’, as well having gotten the opportunity to meet more animators who might work with me in the future. Perhaps start by hosting a project with a script, but one that is used with a song in usual MAP format, that way you can get some experience in the field before jumping into something this heavy. I hope this advice helps a little, once again, I’m not the most experienced so you should probably take all of this with a grain of salt. Looks amazing! Even though it's a storyboard, I can tell everything that's going on and it's so perfectly unsettling. I love the use of the three cats who died in line for leader- Mistystar, Reedwhisker and Curlfeather, and the three stars orbiting around medicine den frostpaw as though the three dead cats are haunting her. Did you make this in an animation program then render it all at once, render it in sections, or have each picture separate and put them together in an editing program?
