Such a liberal take on people... "Human nature!!!" is one of the biggest bullshits of our current society, it's mostly the ruling class in power trying to apply their own selfish thoughts and feelings on the rest of society saying that "I got here to here, SURELY being a selfish psychotic individual is just a thing among EVERYONE!" ignoring the material conditions of the environment that shapes how we behave.

A TV series set in the universe of Frostpunk would be amazing.
@PopcornMax1796 ай бұрын
That was also my takeaway from playing through Frostpunk 1, that this would be a great base for a compelling episodic series. The potential is very high, in the right hands. Because the gameplay loop is very compelling. One can imagine all the various beats that you play throughout a playthrough scenes cutting back and forth between various characters. The elite, the lower classes, the expedition teams coming upon rival cities. A cliffhanger for at least one of those PoV storylines each episode. Culminating in an epic intercut finale to the music The City Must Survive as the worst of the cold bears through. Perhaps a character struggles to brave through the outside to manually make sure the generator doesn't fail. The theme of not just physical survival but the survival of a societies moral identity is very good material. I think done well the world of FP would be very popular with a audience who don't know anything about the videogame.

For real. With Fallout being made into a television show and a Disco Elysium tv show being discussed, Frostpunk for sure needs a show. The setting is perfect and it also doesn't have a central character so they can really just do their own thing rather than trying to copy anything specific from the game other than what makes it compelling.

You could argue that Snowpiercer is set in the same universe. It seems to be a more olden era and reason for the winter is about as vague as in Frostpunk. It's just on a train rather than a city, but it still has the same struggle and challenges.

You survived the Great Storm, even though events like theses will be huges challenges for cities, it's more about not letting the city fall appart : "The city must not fall". Really, this is the most evident and, to my opinion, best option, and I can't wait to see how that is going to feel while playing the game. I also hope that if they do something similar like the "Order vs Faith" split this time we actually have different mechanics to deal with depending on what we choose, in FP1 it felt like both paths had the same things just with different coats of paint, and I understand it's difficult to balance that but it took away all incentive to replay and choose a different path.

In the spirit of staying on topic, I don't think the devs will delve deeply into the psychology and sociology of either faction, merely give them a relatable/recognizable ideology and let the player's mind fill in the many blanks, consciously or otherwise.

But most importantly, the game continues what was laid down in the first part of frostpunk. (I also want to praise for the optimization. The game is incredibly beautiful and my old laptop 2060 still pulls out this masterpiece at 60 fps (Medium-high settings and without upscaling)). And that bloody quote: "Nature isn't the biggest enemy, human nature is" - that's peak Heidegger. A little context to that: Heidegger believed that human existence is an amalgam of nature and culture. We sort of... nurture the nature with our culture. The culture is an extension of our mind, it's a creation where virtuality of our minds meet the physical realm. 11 bit studios is, as always, teasing us players with the visions of man-made tragedies induced in the times of great natural challenges. I hope the gameplay mechanically speaking is as profound as the ludic narration and the narrative premise of the game. If it is, then you may very well hit this year's GOTY.

Individual people become less important than the general population as a whole. Instead of a handful of people surviving the harshest colds, it's an entire mass of people, unsure of the future. Instead of constructing the individual buildings, you expand out to create districts thst serve multiple purposes, to house the people and produce the goods you need to expand more. Long story short, it's not about surviving anymore, you've already proven that you can do that. No, it's about thriving. The City must not fall.

Fun challenge. Do the aerodrome stack with workforce reduction? says -200 each time you place one, even if it's the same location/district. If anyone from 11bit company reads this. Well done, for a BETA it feels well polished by Polish ppl. ;) I wish in the future that you guys make a snowpiercer DLC, would fit in so well. That you have to upgrade/maintain the train, build new carts, take care of the different tier of people from the wealthy to workers. Make difficult choices to maintain control and population. It's interesting that the sequel has taken a path of societal interest groups forming, showing an angle of analysis somewhat in line with historical materialism, but I always get nervous when there's so much talk about "human nature" - please don't simply state that there are irreconcilable matters innate to humanity that does not allow for a stable society to form. Allow us to actually choose what interest groups to court and empower, which ones to ignore or suppress (or perhaps entirely remove), and allow for mediation between groups whose material interests might align, then have society be shaped accordingly, so we have to live with our choices and development.

Anyone else notice that the icebloods at 3:16 said to get rid of the law, and replace it, with the same law?

I've played a bunch of the first game, and watched some people I trust play through the preview. The change in direction to a focus on ideological struggle on a completely different scale is something I can definitely appreciate - if I feel like going for a more personal feeling struggle against the elements I can still go for the original Frostpunk after all -, and after some getting used to it the UI looks mostly really clean and has a lot of good information on the different resources necessary. What I can say I'd like to see changed by the time the full game releases is that camera controls and some of the animations of automatons and frostbreakers seem to be a bit floaty with the current state of the game. I have to say that I really like the way laws work. Mentioned politics above, but starting with only a few different factions and having others crop up depending on the direction the society starts to take beyond what the existing parties care about was really interesting to see, and I hope that it'll be as dynamic as it's been presented in the beta gameplay.

I'm really glad you made a sequel, I'm a big fan of the first game. I played it for the first time in winter, when my house was 3 degrees Celsius and the electricity was on 3 hours a day. So I think a summer release is not what people like me and maybe you would want, but then again I'm incredibly happy that the game got a sequel. You gave me incredible emotions when I played your game I had a diesel generator running and had to decide what was going to work, the heater or the water pump.

Kudos panowie :)

Absolutely brilliant. I love the decision that rather than building a single building that fulfills needs you instead now build districts that fulfill said needs. And now votes? That's awesome!

This sounds absolutely epic. I am glad that you are moving on and elevating the gameplay to something more complex and different. I was worried that we would get the same or worse experience, but this sounds even better and more interesting because of the internal conflict and politics. I always liked that in the first one, the connection between the leadership and citizens.

Thank you for explaining the reasoning behind the 180 shift to the game. It makes a lot of sense now that it has been explained. I really really really hope this game is as good or better than FP1, that game was and still is incredible.

Nature not being the biggest enemy is problematic. Because ultimately having an intimate city builder forcused on having a small group of people survive against the brutal uncaring conditions of nature is the driving force behind the succes of Frostpunk. I agree that making a sequel to that amazing gut wrenching game is a tough challenge and simply having another storm or making it even colder wouldn't do. But personally I would have gone smaller, not bigger with the story. Your strengths lie in the brutal struggle for survival of people that you get to know, based on your decisions. So zooming in on the personal drama, rather than zooming out to geopolitics and impersonal factions that you don't care as much about. I could see that working in a migrating fully customisable dreadnought type setting for instance, as a prequel or sequel. Be forced to stop occasionally for shelter and strip mining an area with temporary structures, before achieving goals and pressing on. Every time the Walking Dead scaled up and moved away from zombies being the threat to humans, things got repetitive and I lost interest. Humans fucking things up for other humans is just not nearly as interesting as getting them to actually work together to survive. Similarly, Pirates of the Caribbean pretty much had to do a reset, because every sequel got grander and more out of touch from the antics of Captain Jack Sparrow and a motley crew that was the real draw to the series.

It looks amazing! ONE thing I'd ask: Please remove the "End" to Endless mode. For instance, in the first game, there was a limit to how many steam cores you could get. Because of that, not everyone could make the city "As they see fit." Also, please remove the 300 week limit etc. Otherwise, amazing stuff! Keep up the good work!
