@bigfinewoman the Pittsburgh stations didn't play these, but WJAC-TV (Channel 6) Johnstown always did. I grew up on Suzy Snowflake, Hardrock, Coco and Joe; and this Frosty during the Christmas season.

I remember this! I heard it on Garfield Goose and Friends with Fraizer Thomas. I also remember Ray and Rayner when he use to come on in the morning. I will never forget when my 5th grade class went to see Bozo Circus, and my friend Margaret played in the games(not the grand prize game) they had right before the show would end. April 9, 1973. Foster Park School Ms. Sullivan was the teacher.

This is my absolutely favorite version of this song. The wonderful close harmony singing style of the 40's with the jazzy chords delights me every time! About 10 years ago Channel 9 was broadcasting it (obviously one of the delicate film originals) when it caught on fire in the projector. Quite alarming--it looked like the TV was on fire! I haven't seen it on Channel 9 since. Glad you have it here. Thanks very much for posting!

I live in Western Maryland, but we have gotten WGN for many years on cable. I remember Bozo, Harry Carry, and Family Classics with Frazier Thomas. One of the people that wrote Frosty is from about 2 miles from here. Cheers!!

Frosty, Hardrock, Coco and Joe, and Susy Snowflake were available on DVD at Amazon. I bought my sister a copy two years ago and she loved it. It was a time machine to our christmas's in the 60's

Ray Raynor first thing in the morning on a B&W TV was the best. Feel bad for kids stuck with the crap they pump out these days.

Nice version of Frosty the Snowman! Of course in the original story when the song was thought up, Frosty didn't like go to the North Pole, he melted away. The point about him being back someday is he'll be back when the snow falls and when the children build him again.

I thought this originated with WJAC channel 6 of Johnstown, Pennsylvania (originally channel 13), since my parents can attest to seeing this since when they first got a TV. WJAC might have been one of the few stations it was distributed to.

This was often played as a between show filler by WSPD TV in Toledo when I wa a kid in the 50's. It alternated with Susie Snowflake.

@Tony63909 Bob Bell ROCKED! I loved how the clowns were real mellow and not frantic..just regular Chicago guys who just happened to be clowns...Bob had a lot of jobs around WGN, as I remember..a real Man For All Seasons! Thank you for sharing your memories and so glad you are there for the kids on the CTA!

@Tony63909 I hope someday they put Garfield Goose, Ray Rayner, and the old Bozo's Circus back on the air, or at least sell the dvd's of all of them in their entirety !!! I don't remember that specific one, because I was a little younger (1961), but I loved the sound of that flapping beak !!!!!
@468787812 жыл бұрын
@Tony63909 To me the only Bozo was Bob Bell, and I was born in 1961. Mr. Ned was very cool, and I watched Bozo everyday, but WGN doesn't want to release those old shows to the public for, some reason !!
@Tony6390912 жыл бұрын
@sallythewerewolf I was deeply moved by your post.Kids are the world to me. I love them soooo much. If you ever need a ride on CTA, stop by the Damen/Milwaukee Blue line train station and say hello. GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got to go to the Bozo Show & played in the game...NOT Bozo Buckets, but the games boys against girls...I remember we had to take a helium balloon out of a box, run down to the other side & tie it on a wooden bar...I remember the colorful jumper my mom dressed me in, that we think made them choose me out of the line to be in the game...I remember the 1st girl, let all the balloons escape, and they stopped, took 1/2 the boys balloons & we started over...

@4687878 If you ever hear that the old episodes are on the market, please let me know. "Bozos Circus" was also great. You might not remember him because you are younger, but my favorite Bozo was Bob Bell. He was something special with kids. I work for the CTA and love kids. To this day I don't ask them ,"How old are you?". I always ask."How many fingers old are you?" That was the kind of influence Ned Locke,the Ring Master, had on me.
@Kelski199812 жыл бұрын
They showed this Hardrock Coco and Joe and Suzy Snowflake every year till Frazier Thomas died in 85. I was one of the last kids to see these. Quite special times!! WGN is weird like that with oh gee dont show the Bozo Circus/Show Ray Raynor or Garfield Goose I'd love to know my guess (and its only a guess) is because then we'd (the public) would have to go to where the display is at the Museum of Broadcasting!

@4687878 Have any ideas on how I can get to see old "Garfield Goose" episodes? I tried KZbin, but I could find any to watch. I am 54 years old and I still remember many episodes. My favorite was when Romburg Rabbit snuck behind Frazier Thomas as Frazier was reading a riddle. He would then quietly whisper the answer to Garfield Goose. "Garfield Goose" was my favorite show. I'd get a real blast watching it again.

WXYZ ran this on the SOUPY SALES SHOW as well. While I may have a bias, coming from Detroit, in all honesty, I believe we had the best locally produced shows. Sorry, but GARFIELD GOOSE cannot compare.
