How To Achieve A Glamorous Mixed Media Painting Using Gelli Prints

Join me in the studio as we create a mixed media painting starting with antique gold spray paint. Next, we will add a layer of transparent acrylic paint, then place on the beautiful Klimt inspired gelli prints from last week. Finally, we will cover the artwork with a thick layer of pouring medium mixed with acrylic inks. If you want to see a variation of the spray paint, you can wet a paper towel and rub off some of the paint. that way you don't have to redo the stencil. It's just a thing I do and it looks fabulous.

Try using a wood skewer to make a few additional swirls if you want more of a 'mix' than the limited tilting gives. Of course, you probably don't want to go overboard there so it still has an organic feel to it. =) It is a very creative way of using pouring medium. I now have a new idea to use up my stash!

Maybe you should consider investing in a heat tool from Tim Holtz, that way you can dry your layers and it cuts heaps of time off of waiting for them to dry. Loved the video and your painting this week. 😘

I would have thought with all the wet mediums you used on the painting it would have caused to drawing to blur, but it didn't? I'm loving your videos! I am learning new techniques and I love your enthusiasm. I have done paint pouring and I used Flo-trol. It did not dry shiny like this. Is the Liquitex Pouring Medium what does that? If it is more expensive, but saves the step of resin, I am for it!

Yep, the pouring medium dries this shiny, I love it! I don't use resin, this is the closest that I can get! Cheers Froyle

I put two coats of paint on them. You can still see paint drips underneath if you look close. But they have covered pretty well! Cheers Froyle

Froyle, do you have a video that tells how to clean your stencils when used with various products? I heard you say on one thdt you have a basin to put them in, but is that with just water?

Yes, I drop them in a basin when I’m working so the paint stays soft & it easily wipes off. But I don’t always wash them, unless I think that it will negatively effect the stencil. You can use a little soap or detergent to get the paint off. I also use baby wipes to clean them when they are still wet. Happy creating! Cheers!

Those Quinn’s are my favourite especially nickel azo gold I could drink that stuff 😂 throw in some Indian yellow hue and kabang . Have you ever done the pouring medium on a wood canvas ? What ratio do u use .? I have some pouring medium that I received in a mediums kit I got for Christmas that I haven’t gotten around to using. Do you have a video on how u printed the girls. Never mind I found it. Also I’m thinking flowers. Hmmmm stamped on tissue paper in permanent ink . Would that work?.

Oh you just have to use it! It doesn't last forever!! Ratio depends on how transparent / opaque you want your paint to be, cheers Froyle

I never thought about it but why wouldn’t any acrylic spray paint play well with other acrylic paint. They’re all plastic polymer.
