I'll share with you 3 demonstrations of how to create image transfers using gelli printing.
From my Skillshare class - 'Create Successful Image Transfers Using Gelli Printing'
View Skillshare Class - skl.sh/3fw3ecv
In this art class, we are going to focus entirely on creating successful image transfers using the gelli printing techniques. We will start with my favourite and easiest technique, using downloaded laser-printed images on pre-painted backgrounds. Then we will move on to using those same printed images, using a two colour mono-print. Finally, you will learn how to create successful image transfers using magazine pages.

I wanted to make you aware of the following: I did a lot of testing with inkjet printers instead of laser print copies. I have a Canon Pixma inkjet printer which uses a combination of pigment and dye ink. There are two methods for reliable image transfers: 1. Use brochure paper. 2. A fantastic cheap method I came across lately: just use plain paper. Use a black and white image (color converted to gray scale) and print it with your printer with normal, color (yes color ! settings). Press it onto your plate without any medium. Spray the back with water. Let it sit for a while. The water on the back of the paper will dislodge the ink. Peel the paper off and you will have a perfect transferred image. It might not work with every printer, but with printers such as Canon that use a combination of inks it works flawlessly

When you're ready to transfer the image to another paper, do you need to add paint over the image to get it to release from the gelli plate, or how does that work?
@stefaniekappel
@stefaniekappel 2 ай бұрын
@@jessiebrown3207 yes. Let it first dry on the gelli plate and then lift it with paint or medium..

FYI Using a Gelli Plate to make "transformative art" is legal and not subject to copyright. Andy Warhol's estate was sued and the case was thrown out due to "Transformative Art" falls under the First Amendment right to free speech as is an expression in the US at least..Andy Warhols famous prints of Cambell's Soup was not an imposter that the average person would not think the print was an actual advertisement from the Cambell's Soup company because of the crazy bright colors transforming the original image into art.

Will this work with prints from an ink jet printer or must it be a laser printer? Can I use prints from our local drug store print shop on glossy photo paper or matt photo paper (I don’t have a laser printer). Very informative demo and interesting technique.
@FroyleArt
@FroyleArt 2 жыл бұрын
It won’t work with an inkjet printer, yes to the prints from your drug store, but NOT on photo paper, this will stick to your gel plate & not come off! Standard copy paper, colour laser print, I have found to work the best! 👍🏼 it’s a fabulous technique, although sometimes it takes a little practice to get it right 😃

what are your printer settings and what kind of paper (matte/glossy) are you using? I have a brand new Gelli plate but I can't get an image to transfer. All the paint gets lifted by the first image paper and almost nothing stays on the plate for the second paper to pick back up... :/ (my pictures are smaller but also laser-printed and pretty contrasty)

I noticed at the very end of this that you mentioned the images were laser printed. I've never seen color images from a laser printer (because I live in the boondocks, lol!). Would this work with an ink jet image? Of course I can always experiment and find out but before making a mess I thought I would ask. :-)

Just new to Gellie printing but received my gellie plate today and was excited to start. Your tutorials are excellent and very inspiring. Question...I am having no success at all in transferring the laser-printed image onto my pad. I have experimented with the amount of paint, different papers, etc. The images are not transferring. Any ideas as to why?

I love your technique and the best part seems to be that there is no wait time for drying. Is this because these are laser prints. I’ve been doing image transfers direct from fashion magazines and have to wait hours for it to dry and then have to use white paint to lift. What do you print these images on before you take it to the copy shop . Are these laser copies expensive? Bonnie in Wisconsin

Great Idea saving images on a USB stick, then taking that to a copy centre/shop. If you don't have a USB stick you can attach your images to an email & ph the copy centre/shop for their address to email it to them. Keep a note of the exact time you sent it, so when you're there they can trace it back & print it off. If possible support local independent copy/printing shops as they often have specialised machinery not often found in chain stores. Also they tend to have a bit more time to give detailed advice if you have more complicated copying needs.

I saw your work on Instagram and I enjoyed this video your prints are awesome. My problem is I can pull a print but sometimes my images look like they have the measles LOL because there are so many dots I can remove it with a baby wipe but I’m wondering if they are air bubbles. Sometimes after a couple of pulls they’ll go away.But your prints are pristine.
@FroyleArt

Hi there Diane, thank you for your compliments! Acrylic paint is polymer mixed with pigment, soap is used to bind the pigment, sometimes cheap paint won't have screened out the soap and the paint can become bubbly. So, first look at the paint you are using, then my next suggestion is to check your gel plate. I used make-up wipes once because I ran out of baby wipes, a bad move! The gel plate didn't like this! So maybe there is something on the surface of the plate that is causing the bubbles? I have experienced the bubbles with using magazine pages, so check your prints as well, what are you using? and also, the amount of paint! Too much paint will cause bubbles on the print. I hope one of these ideas helps you, let me know how you go! Cheers Froyle

@@FroyleArt thank you for responding when I start to get bubbles I actually clean my plate with a little soap and water and olive oil and then I cleaned it again. But I think it’s the magazine photos that bubble. Because I’m really good with the amount of paint I put on I learned from lots of trial and error lol I did some copies at a staples copy store, assuming they were laser prints and they did not come out at all. I will have to double check to make sure they are laser. Again thanks for responding your work is gorgeous. And now that you mention it I’m almost positive it’s because of the magazine Prints.
