Unpopular opinion: "Love is an Open Door" was a song about psychopathic manipulation If you listen to it, his opening "maybe it's the party talking, or the chocolate fondue" was the kid friendly equivalent to the phrase, "man, how drunk am I?", A phrase used to get people to loosen up, and lower their expectations of you at parties. And throughout the song, Anna was leading during the "cute" parts. When Hans actually was leading, it was always really generic stuff that was clearly him trying to get her to play along and look like a couple. Let's be honest here, he was not going to say sandwiches, and we all know it. And the part that pulls it all together is that Hans, the guy who clearly had been outside and should know how social convention works, proposes after meeting her for a day. An action that is clearly taking advantage of a girl who clearly doesn't understand how socializing works.
@hunterolaughlin3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’ve known that the entire time, but people still forget there was obvious clues in “Love Is An Open Door” that foreshadowed his true colors and still subtly built the twist. They still complain that Hans did a complete 180 without any subtle hints and indications.
@crollerlive3 жыл бұрын
Also Him "trying" to save Elsa makes sense cause he wants to look like the good guy and make Elsa's death look like an accident. If you watch the part where he grabs the guys arm to stop him from shooting Elsa with the crossbow he looks up first then grabs the guys arm which makes the bolt hit the chandelier and almost hit Elsa, he meant for the bolt to do that.

Wish they had mentioned changelings too when discussing Kristoff’s kidnapping. Changelings are children switched with a chins of Fae in Scandinavian (and some other countries’) myths, and I feel that what the trolls did to Kristoff was reminiscent of that. Another suspicious thing is that Kristoff is clearly loyal to the trolls (They’re his family), and getting him married to a princess or a queen would be very beneficial in one way or another to the trolls. I don’t trust the trolls in Frozen. I never have.

I actually have a lil theory. What if Hans actually WAS a genuine nice person, but when he is told "If anything happens to the princess, you are all Arendelle has left.", he became a more stressed and began to make bad choices. This ties into "Fixer Upper", which literally has the line, "People make bad choices when they're mad or scared or stressed." Hans felt genuinely concerned for Anna. That one line just elated his emotions further.

About him saving Elsa: I think there are two reasons for this. One, he needs her to tell him where Anna is because I doubt he could become ruler if they both just died without him being married to either of them. Two, he needed her to stop the endless winter (However, once he found out that she couldn't he decided it was time to kill her, since at that point he already assumed Anna was pretty much dead and he had lied saying that they said their wedding vows just before she died, so he now has a claim to the throne)
@molldoll374 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, the summer home in Norway. With a castle. Can we visit? Also, it could be just me, but after the reveal I always interpreted Hans' smile as smug rather than warm fuzzies. Also, also, actually, Actually, it was the parents that decided the solution was keeping Elsa's magic hidden after the incident, rather than Papi and the trolls who removed what was there that would have presumably caused harm left untreated. A good analogy for it is wood. Like, if you get a splinter, it has to be removed before it gets infected, but their parents basically said "No more wood ever." So Anna is fine when exposed to wood again (you know before being stabbed in the heart), she just wished she remembered wood existed. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. :)

Hannah T Not neccisarily. It only explains why Hans was so *easy* for the Trolls to influence-like Anna he has no life experiences outside of his family neglecting him (altho his is more blatantly malicious vs “overprotective”) so like Anna he’s experiencing things very much for the first time, too (And Anna has her mind played with at her most vulnerable as a young child.) But, unlike Anna, Hans doesn’t really have a strong personality-that “mirror” aspect. He’s naive, and goes with the flow, and taking post Fixerupper into account? Incredibly weak-willed.

When Kristoff said that people will “cheat” and “beat” you as well as his overall disdain for other people, wherever he was before the trolls was _not_ a good situation. The other ice harvesters may have been glad to get rid of him for all we know. As for the troll’s advice, they say “fear will be Elsa’s enemy.” The graphic shows Elsa being attacked, which seeing that they knew what clothes she’d be wearing and what hair style she’d have reads to me as prophetic-aka what would happen with fear of her ice powers. HER fear. They were trying to warn her not to be afraid of herself. The family took it the wrong way.
@christianali54314 жыл бұрын

It’s a shocktwist. A planned one at least, but there’s literally no foreshadowing suggesting this about Hans’ Character. He’s a prince, she’s a princess, he could definitely do worse and she’s cute. That’s literally all there is to it. Then the Already Shown Kidnapping A Child + Terrifying Brainwashing Powers trolls...show they have NO concept of consent or boundaries and decide to “get the fiance out of the way” ...so they do. (Sure we’re not shown Hans interacting with the Trolls. But they could easily set an ambush for him once they decided to do so) Aaaand after Hans, suddenly Shocktwist vs Actual Plottwist (yes there is a difference) villains are “in vogue” and storytelling has suffered for it

Hey guys, I noticed a detail in the Pixar universe recently and I haven’t been able to find anything on it, so I figured what better place to talk about it than in the comments of my favorite Pixar theory guardians! I wanna talk about something in Toy Story. We all know that Woody spends most of the film trying to convince Buzz he’s just a toy, but there’s significance to his language in doing so that suggests something. He keeps saying Buzz is not “the real Buzz Lightyear.” Emphasis on “real”. Meaning, there is a real, HUMAN, Buzz Lightyear out there somewhere?? To further back this up, I’m gonna quote the Buzz Lightyear action figure commercial we see play on the TV in Sid’s room. It says “the world’s greatest superhero, now the world’s greatest toy!” As in the company making Buzz Lightyear figures and writing the Buzz Lightyear story line, that later gets made into comics and video games we see in the sequel, may have something from reality it’s basing itself off of. And another note, it doesn’t have to be literal. I’m not advocating for the idea that the Galactic Alliance organized to fight the crimes of an evil emperor is canon in the Pixar Universe (though that’d be kinda awesome). But, as Stinky Pete says in his sequel: “once the astronauts went up, children only wanted to play with space toys.” So I feel like it’s not far fetched to say that Buzz Lightyear, is an astronaut, that became popular amongst kids during the age of the space race, and served as inspiration for the toy. Thinking about this makes me wonder what Buzz Lightyear (the real one) did for space exploration in his time, for example, did he make conquests by BnL possible down the line? Not sure if this has any legs to be taken further in investigation or not, but I found it interesting to think about. Side note, I have thought the trolls were evil from the very beginning so seeing this video made me very very happy. Big fan, keep doing what you’re doing! See you for trivia!

In regards to the literal part, saying he isn't the real Buzz Lightyear doesn't mean there is an actual person named that in the Toy Story universe. Basically, it would be like if a little kid was running around in a cowl and cape trying to be Batman and pull off dangerous stunts and someone tells the kid that they aren't the real Batman so they would stop doing crazy things. The "real Batman" in this case is just a comic book character, so not technically a real person, but still the real Batman. Now, in my example, obviously you could omit the word 'real' and just say they aren't Batman, but, in Toy Story, Buzz's name really is Buzz Lightyear, so Woody can't just say he isn't Buzz Lightyear, because he is; he just isn't the REAL Buzz Lightyear from the fictional shows.

The reason why Hans doesn't seem like a bad guy is because he was not supposed to be. Originally, Elsa was planned as the villain but then, after people in production heard Let it go, they decided that she is too self-aware and it was better to make someone else the villain. (I just read it somewhere, I don't know what the original source is for this. But it always made sense to me :D )

Also in the last word of the Fixer-Upper song where they screamed: "Love", there's a lightning strike, and it may be to dramatize or emphasize the atmosphere of the situation, I kept thinking that that word is the end chant of some spell. The course of the song prolongs the "True" word to create music as Anna and Kristoff are asked to make vows, if they went along and vowed for each other in the scene (hypothetically), the trolls will still end the song with a strong emphasis on the word "Love". I can't think of another way how the after scenes turns out but it getting synced with a thunder, small silence, and then the place will light up to celebrate their marriage. And I definitely agree that Hans is a very bad twist villain and his twist doesn't even makes sense.

At the point when Hans is trying to talk Else down instead of killing her, he is attempting to "seal the deal" with Anna. Either he succeeds, takes her prisoner, and has Annas complete trust now set in some kind of unbreakable ice or he fails, Elsa dies, and he looks more like the heroic figure he wants to appear to be and gets Annas complete trust (yadda yadda yadda). Either way it goes, it's that final push that makes him seem unimpeachable in the eyes of Anna and the soldiers or Arendale. THAT was his reasoning for doing it and while it didn't pay off in the end, it wasn't a bad tactic.
@Chrono_Mitsurugi4 жыл бұрын
trying to talk her down is fine. but why did he stop the guy shooting the crossbow? he could have just said he tried but the the men under orders of Duke Weaselton killed her. what makes more sense is that he didn't want Elsa dead until after she got rid of the endless winter.

I think Hans saved Elsa from being shot because, as you said, he wanted to "stage a little accident for Elsa" *after* they were married. Plus, it definitely seemed like he was aiming for the chandelier as you can see him look up at it before he goes to stop the guy shooting at her. Hans revealing his plot to Anna does make sense, as she needed a True Loves Kiss to save her from freezing, but because he knew he didn't, and therefore couldn't save her, it came down to him either revealing his plot to her, or him kissing her and it not working and him probably having to reveal it to her anyway.
@sfsin33804 жыл бұрын
On the saving Elsa thing if Hans was responsible for Elsa's death even justifiably it would be grounds to bar him from marrying to Anna for political reasons (it would look bad Mary Queen of Scots was forced to flee Scotland after marring a man suspected of killing her previous husband). Hans was probably just doing everything in his power to keep his hands clean (at least in the eyes of the people)

Me: *Sees title* I knew it!! 8:17- Ben: And that is when the real villains step in, the trolls! Also me: Well, I personally think its at the beginning of the movie. Here's why- It was literally they're fault Elsa couldn't control her powers in the first place! At the beginning of the movie when the king and queen (Forgot their names lol) took Anna and Elsa to the trolls, Grandpappy said, "Your power will only grow. There is beauty in it, but also great danger. You must learn to control it, Fear will be your enemy." (10:18-10:25). He was the one who made Elsa scared of her powers! He was also the one who gave the king the idea to keep Elsa in total isolation away from the outside world, and her sister! And I quote from Ben himself, "I mean, it tears both of their relationships completely apart, leaves them in utter isolation, and drives their parents to go and look for some kind of a cure, which leads to their death! And it turns out that the secret keeping literally drives Elsa to become a recluse, where she has absolutely no control of her powers because she fears them so much, and its not until she actually embraces those powers that she has control over them!" (10:50-11:19). In conclusion, I had the same theory! Just in a different way! If u made it to the end of my comment, thx for reading! I know it was long, I just rlly wanted to share it with u all, and maybe Ben and J will see my comment! =3

Also I very much question the way they treated the child they kidnapped. I mean the first thing they say when he gets to them is, "Take your clothes off." About Hans saving Elsa, he looks up right before hand and someone told me in that moment he planned to bring the chandelier down, but in my mind it almost seems more likely to hit that tiny cord on accident rather than intentionally in that situation.

I think the "stealing a child"-thing could also be a reference to fairy stories, since fairies steal children and/or exchange them for changelings. Killing Elsa before hand would of just upset a very much alive Anna and he wouldt of gotten his kingdom he so badly wanted
@dawnrobbins70664 жыл бұрын
There were some very subtle hints throughout Love Is An Open Door that Hans was faking it (too many for me to list here) and you could argue that he revealed his plan to Anna and left her to die because if he didn't really love her, the kiss wasn't going to work and she would have found out that way five seconds later. But I agree that this theory actually makes more sense and I wish Disney had gone with well-meaning trolls screwing everyone over rather than an actively malicious force as it would have been more interesting.
@ravensilverthorne89684 жыл бұрын
Also Anna and elsa's parents didn't want to go and see the trolls and only did it as a last resort when elsa became a danger. Also also the book that elsa's father looked at to find the map to get to the trolls had some pretty scary representations of the trolls which implied them being evil.
@zupergurkan Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how it is in Norway, but here in Sweden, it was a very common lore of changelings. A troll would switch their child for a human cold, and I'm thinking that could be what happened with Kristoff. Actually, in one of our more famous tv shows for kids made in the 70s or so, a few kids actually leave a 2-year old in the forest cus they find her annoying and hope the trolls will take her... I just re-watched Frozen. In the beginning, Elsa has control of her powers. She has an accident, sure, but so much could have been avoided if the Trolls hadn't mentioned her powers could be dangerous. She's young and the fear obviously only does more harm than good. Also, her parents should have taught her discipline, not fear. "Practice with your powers and you will be able to control them" instead of "lock the castle down and isolate Elsa in hopes she will learn control".

One part I think hampers this theory: how did the trolls deliver their memory magic to Hans in the first place? When we see them memory-mod young Anna, she is there, at their encampment. They make physical contact with her. We never see Hans in the presence of any troll, nor is there a point where it could be plausibly implied that Hans was alone long enough for a troll to mind-mod him. Unless it totally happened, and on-screen no less, and the only reason we the audience are unaware is because the trolls broke through the fourth wall to mind-mod us in the real world.

If you do end up summering in Norway, PLEASE tell me so we may hang. My theory on Hans: Hans goes to Arendelle to scheme his way to becoming king. Although he is genuinely smitten by this seemingly random girl, he's still fully intent on becoming king. After realizing who Anna really is, he alters the plan to make room for two possible ways to achieve his goal as he goes out his way to make an impression on her, to the point of convincing her to marry him. With the request of the queen's blessing over their marriage ending in failure, the inciting incident occurs, and Hans realizes that he can work up some extra credit towards Anna and hopefully change Elsa's mind on blessing the marriage (and actually not wanting the people to starve and freeze their toes off). He is put in charge of the people's safety as Anna looks for Elsa, and continues to show them goodwill. After all, what good is life as ruler is your people hate you. I agree with your questioning of the ice castle scene, even though I could believe that was the first "accidents" he planned for Elsa but yeah, after that, my theory completely breaks apart with the fireplace and the mocking smile, and that's why this is a horrible theory spawned by nonsense writing. I don't agree the trolls made him a villain, simply because, based on how they alter memories. They need to extract it by physically touching the person, drag out the memories and then put them back in their heads. Nothing's been shown they can do this remotely, as far as I can remember. I don't think the line " get the financee out of the way" means anything but rhyme and "screw *his* opinion". Norway has different kinds of trolls, but the lumbering ones that Trollywood seems to be fond of, far as I know, you're right about those.
