It's actually the opposite, it's still the best alternative for both performance and reliability. Most branded "solutions" are merely gimmicks and senseless bling bling, I've tested a lot of them and nothing beats distilled or triple distilled water.

Wanted to chime in with my experience with all kinds of coolant setups in an attempt to learn for myself. Distilled + biocide sounds very nice. Especially after learning the hard lesson of how not worth it all the cool opaque and semi opaque coolants actually are due to all the compounded work/cleaning and worry. The issue is that biocide uses copper sulphates 99% of the time and unless you are running purely copper i believe you will accelerate the corrosion and interactions between the varying metals in your loop. EG nickel plated copper with plain copper with stainless steel and god forbid silver on top of all that. It shouldnt normally be a big concern but EK has had a lot of trouble with their nickel plating which can get absolutely devastated by copper sulphate. Ive even heard stories of pitting due to running biocide with those nickel plated components. The next alternative might be to try running a silver kill coil. Ive yet to try this but i have mixed silver fittings in with my coolant in the past and it seemed to accelerate the corrosion/mess. Ive also read that running the distilled water options tends to be of more concern due to how it will more quickly become electrically conductive and need replacing. Basically due to all the potential and actual headache that comes with water cooling ive finally opted for running the safest coolant option for my components i can think of. That being EK's cryofuel in clear. Alternatively ive had great luck with blue koolance coolant. The reason i prefer coolants so much is due to the fact that they seem to be the most reliable when it comes to inhibiting corrosion, especially when mixing various commonly used water cooling metals. Its also very nice to know that im running the coolant that my given components manufacturer designed for said component. EG running ek cryofuel with EK water blocks or running swiftech coolant with any of their AIOs/Open loop setups. As a side note i also believe the coolant option is non electrically conductive typically and stays that way for many months when handled properly. Ive also read that biocided water basically will almost always near immediately become electrically conductive. I have very little experience with this though just thought i would mention it. @@conin.v
