Chris, the large piece of plastic that said, "For Decals" on it, was for transferring the large decals onto the model. Similar to a "palette" for painters. Extra step I thought but I'm sure it kept some folks from ruining large decals!

The last time I seen these beer 🍻 trucks model kits on the store shelf's was back in 1980 I had the Coors beer truck freightliner tractor truck with the trailer great to see these coming back
@jakewoodhead6858 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for another great video Chris, I watch your videos for tips and inspiration for my own kits. I saw the clip where you used gliserine to mimic grease on a fifth wheel, I decided to try black acrylic paint in a squeeze tube so it will dry. Put three small dabs of the paint on the fifth wheel then spread the paint around by dabbing and spreading with an old brush until you get the desired effect. Also with these Fruehauf trailers, if you don't glue the axles to the suspension subassembly while still gluing the track arms to the axles this will let the track arms hinge where they snap into the suspension subassembly, if that makes sense, and give you working suspension. It's a little fragile, but it might add some detail to the display. It might be a good idea to modify the track arms by replacing the stock locator pins with brass rod or wire.
@richhartman63643 жыл бұрын
Chris, great build! With the moveable axles one trick I added to the air lines was to add a very weak spring to keep tension on them. That way you can move the axle and not have your air lines drooping. I know that's not in the box; but it's an easy extra to add.
@Harlanmote Жыл бұрын
The real trailers had the spring on the airlines.

Chris. As a truck mechanic for over 45 years, (Now Retired) the Glad Hand connections and lines on the front of the trailer should be Red and Blue. Red for the pressure side, and Blue for the return side. Just noticed that on this build.
@sczuylevch133 жыл бұрын
Do they have a proper side for right or left, for supply and return? Or does it depend on the make of the trailer?
@charlestreadway64913 жыл бұрын
@@sczuylevch13 Yes. The left hand or outside of the trailer is RED (Supply). The Right hand is always BLUE (Return). This is the same for all trailers in North America.

@wwiiinplastic47123 жыл бұрын
According to Scalemates it started life in 1970; in 1971 it got some extra parts to make a reefer. In 1972 it got Schlitz decals; 1976 they released a flatbed version; then after that just cycled through a bunch of previous and new decals. I might look for the reefer version.
@captainmorgan11073 жыл бұрын
I wish they would do the reefer again, but they haven't so far. Round 2 is reissuing the old ERTL Great Dane reefer trailer in the next month or so. When the beer kits came out they included the reefer parts but they weren't used on the box art builds. Scalemates is off a little, the AMT flatbed was a brand new tooling with full frame underneath. IMC did a generic box trailer in the late 60's/ early 70's that they later reissued as a flatbed using the box trailer as the base. Also, the beer kits from AMT came out in the late 70's and the Schlitz trailer was paired with the Mack Cruiseliner tractor that was originally issued with Ryder decals in '76/'77. Not trying to be a "know it all", I've been building these trucks since '71 and I have most of the old 70's AMT annual catalogs to back up the dates.
@richardalbert80793 жыл бұрын
Captain Morgan Thank you for your info. You're not being a "know it all," just sharing your knowledge of the kits issued "first time around." I was fortunate enough to catch the originals on "there way out," as I have been building them since 1982. I never understood the RYDER decals on the MACK CRUISELINER. Now that you shared that it is supposed to be paired with the SCHLITZ trailer, now I have a purpose to build the Cruiseliner. Beautiful truck, but RYDER decals don't do it any justice. Thank you again

In those trailer kits there is a locking bar for the sliding rear tandems just like the real thing . in this video it shows up at 317 on the below the mud flaps , and for your information all clearance lights by law require red to be displayed to the rear only and amber to the the sides and front, i also noticed where you located the tail lights on that trailer , they should be tucked up in under the rear of the trailer otherwise every time you back into a loading dock you will damage the lights

If I remember correctly that big extra plastic piece was for the AMT decals that came in the original issue. You could make a placard for the decals and glue the placard to the trailer. I am not 100% positive but am pretty sure that's what it is for.

I've watched a few of your videos recently and I have a couple questions. Firstly, what size socket are you using to slide your tires onto for sanding them? A spark plug socket? And secondly, I've seen you use the Sharpie Permanent Markers quite a bit. How do they hold up over time? Do the colors fade? Thanks.
