We lived one summer off of a 50 lbs bag of rice, a jug of sesame oil, and all the free rejected produce at the local food co-op. We'd go in and be waiting when they opened to collect the discards, and we made 'stir fry' everything. Most things I learned to eat, but I have to work to choke down eggplant since that was the most common discard all summer!

During hard times we ate quite a lot of beans. One of our fav bean dishes was calico beans. Even my kids loved it.

Wow, I just got chicken thighs for $1.79. Yes, they bone in and had skin, but they were HUGE, AND MEATY ! They were the size of a med to large chicken breast. They came from Costco, and they sell so much chicken, rotisserie chickens, and eggs, they found it easier to have their own chicken farms. So they control the quality to provide better chicken and eggs at better prices.

I can't remember what channel i saw this meal: can soup over rice. Did it tonight. Ad some veggies to the rice, diced veggies make it easy to cook it in short amount of time. Love the bags of shred cabbage

Game changer! Love this simple recipe to make cream of…I am going to try this this weekend. This seems pantry space saving as well lol. My fall back in lean times is a similar dish but with chicken or ham and home canned green beans, pasta and topped with whatever is on hand, tortilla chips, French fried onions or cornflakes. I like the added texture.

Other than Ramen noodles, my hungry times go-to was Campbell's beefy mushroom soup, ground hamburger mixed together over baked/mashed potatoes or rice or noodles. I'd love to see a dried replacement for the beefy mushroom. That gravy is my comfort food. It reminded me of a school lunch I loved as a kid.

Just use beef bouillon and dehydrated/canned mushrooms or mushroom soup base and make it the same as he did. I was hanging winter curtain so I missed some of the video but heard gluten free, I use flour and a fat to make my sauce then add whatever flavor you want…..celery, onion, beef, chicken, cheese…make any cream soup you need for super cheap !! Many years ago I used to buy a mushroom soup base from Watkins, not sure if they still have it or not ? Blessings

Best things I've done to ramen: garlic, green onion, frozen peas (bonus;it cooled down quickly), butter and eggs (scrambled). Worst things I've done to ramen: added too much salt, over cooked the noodles and felt bad for myself for having to eat RAMEN!!! Now it is comfort food from a easier time!

Thank you so much for all the videos you produce to help people on their preparedness journey. And I understand that preparedness is your primary goal, but trying to keep things as healthy as possible is not contradictory to that goal. The plastic in the bags that hold frozen foods, including the frozen broccoli that your son put in the microwave, do not produce healthy chemicals on the food when they’re microwaved. Since this is not a survival situation, it would be a good idea to take Foods out of the plastic containers put them in a glass bowl with a ceramic cover and microwave them that way. It’s a healthier alternative just something to consider. Have a great day.

Where can you get cornstarch in bulk?
@elaines51792 жыл бұрын
DoNOT use bare hands in the large cheese shreds bag. Unless you are about to use it all up. Otherwise that can grow mold. So use a cup or spoon to get out of the bag. For me one bag lasts for weeks so this is important.

On are starving days when its close to pay day I will get a dollar box of beef flavored rice (I use 2 ) , half pound of some kind of cooked ground meat. 1 pack taco seasoning 1 jar of taco sauce, and a small amount of shredded cheese. Cook rice according to direction on the box. After meat is done add taco seasoning. Then add seasoned meat and taco sauce to rice mixture. Put in a 9 x 13 baking dish . Sprinkle cheese on top. Heat in oven on 350 for 10 to q5 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted. We make taco nachos, or burrito with them. Some times if I have them I will add black beans to the mixture.

I totally just “powdered” myself and my kitchen right before he mentioned that! I just cooked a package from ready hour of macaroni and cheese ti try it out. It’s a bust IMO before I’ve even eaten it because it takes 15-20 min of boiling to cook! Yikes! 12 min for normal max n cheese? Makes no sense to me. Also I love cooking with my kids and especially my son - I can’t throw a ball with him as well as Dad can - so it’s not as meaningful. But cooking - that we can do and connect with in a meaningful way.
