Thank you for watching! I enjoy going to Food Lion and seeing what they have and the prices. The cost of groceries for basic items has gotten so high. Getting sales is so important these days!

Hi Sarah! I enjoyed seeing a different type of video. Thank you for sharing your tips. A good tip is to shop the loss leaders. Those are the deals on the front page of your supermarkets' weekly flyer. They're willing take a loss to lead you into the store, hoping you'll buy other items while there. The trick is to just buy those sale items . Sneaky! Lol

Hi Chris! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing this type of video. I hadn't heard the term "loss leaders" before, thank you for sharing that! Good suggestion on buying only items on sale on the weekly flyer. Everything is priced so high these days. Have a great weekend, Chris!

Hiya Sarah! Thanks for sharing your tips. No matter how old one may be, there’s always something new to learn. A couple of tips…shop early in the day and on a full stomach if possible and check the produce department for markdowns. Have a great weekend. 👋🏼

Great suggestions, Judy! I like that - don't shop hungry, good idea! The price of produce is really high, any markdowns is a blessing to shoppers. I hope you have a great weekend, too, Judy!

I know I cry every time I go to the store. It is unreal. I don’t know what to do…… i’ve quit drinking soda. I drink water now I do not buy any bacon never have never will goodness gracious at the price of the butter….. at my store. We don’t have a discount rack. Good luck shopping. I’m so glad you get to go to the food pantry.

Grocery store pricing is very high! Shopping at the food pantry is a huge blessing. Before the food pantry, I ate instant oatmeal and grits very often. I love to look at pricing at Food Lion but also realize if I had to rely on grocery stores 100% for my food, I would be back to instant grits and oatmeal.

Last weekend I found a 3 lb. Package of expensive bacon. 22.97 reg price marked down to 8.34. Because it had lost its seal. Who cares. I took it home and repackaged it into 5 servings for my hubby and I. That is how I save money at the grocery store. I look for things that are ready to hit their sell date, and are marked way down. I always check what's on the marked down shelves. And hopefully I have a coupon for those items too. Plus, I am a home canner. Just got 7 big bags of beef bones from my boss. He didn't want them. They were from last years cow he had butchered. So I told him, I'll take those! And I made 86 pints of beef bone broth out of them. And canned them all up. Then I always save any chicken bones. Like when I get Costco rotisserie chicken, when my boss goes to Costco to pick up stuff for the store that I work at. Then I take all the meat off those 4.99 chickens. And freeze it in portions. Then take the carcass and make chicken stock out of them. Yesterday, I canned 48 pints and 7 qt. Of chicken broth out of all the bones that I had in my freezer. Just waiting to get enough to make a nesco roaster full of broth. There are alot of ways I store up food, cheaply. Even in this economy. Been a canner, for all 46 years of my marriage. Learned how from my gram and my mom and aunts etc. They all canned in the 60's and 70's. So glad I learned that skill. Plus I enjoy it too.

I wished I knew how to can, unfortunately didn’t have anybody with that knowledge

That's a great deal on the bacon you got! Canning is saving lots of money for you, that is wonderful! Smart to get those bones and make your own broth. Folks like you that know how to can are so blessed with knowledge. Yes, it can be looked up on the internet but it's different when someone is right along side of you teaching the skill!

@CareFreeLivingChannel growing up I helped can with my gram and mom. We didn't have much money when I was growing up. So mom canned. And mom and dad hunted deer and elk. We had a 31 cubic ft. Freezer that was always full of meat. We also raised pigs for quite a few years. We would raise pigs for our friends and relatives. Because we lived out in the country and had the room. Then all the people that wanted pigs would buy the feed. We just raised them for them. Then everyone paid for their own butchering and cut and wrap. Was a great deal for my parents. Plus it was fun raising the pigs.

I'm glad you enjoyed seeing grocery prices in the USA! It's pretty high in my opinion but from what I'm hearing it's less than Canadian pricing. I'm sure the Rao's sauce is great, but I'd prefer a more affordable option myself. Have a fantastic weekend, too!

A little tip regarding bacon. In the "olden days," all bacon was sold by the pound (16 ounces). Years ago, they started selling some packages of bacon that were only 12 ounces, which is 3/4 of a pound. These smaller packs cost less, so many shoppers think they are getting a better deal. Not always so. Have to watch that. Thanks for the great videos. ❤ Cheers!

One tip a cashier friend of mine told me to save even more on the Buy one get one free sale you can use a manufacturers coupon for each item. For example if you buy 2 items and the store is having a bogo sale you can present 2 coupons and it should be subtracted off the total amount. Worth a try!

Hi Sarah, Thanks for sharing your tips. The price of meat has gotten way out of control. I guess we just have to buy what's cheapest rather than what we want mostly. I find it funny that your prices are similar to ours, and I'm in Ontario, Canada (that's without taking the exchange rate into account, as if I had, yours would be much cheaper of course). I love those little pumpkins. I'm thinking of picking one up this week so I can start decorating. I hope you have a great rest of your week (see you Tuesday)!

Wow Canada prices are extremely high! I cannot imagine higher meat prices than what I've seen over the past few years. Everything has gone up so much! I remember 20 years ago, I could go to the store and get basics like bread, milk, butter, bacon and it was affordable. It's all changed so much! The pumpkins were so cute, I enjoyed looking at them, too. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for watching!

Good evening Sarah. If there is a Kroger near you, sometimes they have some very good sales, that's when I stock up. I will check prices with Walmart to see if it's cheaper at Kroger on sale or Walmart. I bought over 300.00 worth of laundry detergent for 100.00 I kid you not on clearance at Kroger, I have not bought laundry detergent in over a year. I've bought 4 boxes of Huggies Diapers for 14.00 each box on clearance for my grand-daughter. Some BOGO's aren't a good deal. Have a wonderful weekend. God bless.
@CareFreeLivingChannel2 ай бұрын
Hi Sara! Wow that's a great savings on laundry detergent! Yes, great suggestion to compare pricing at other stores. Diapers are pretty expensive. I've heard stories of diaper service that used to pick up washable diapers in the 1960's. Disposable diapers seem way more convenient to use! True some Buy 1 Get 1 Free are not the best deals, gotta compare prices for sure. Have a great weekend, Sara and God Bless You, too!

When I was a single mother, I remember thinking 2.99 for bacon was expensive. That was before I got married 24 years ago, now I’m back to choosing between items. What do I need more. Groceries shouldn’t be this high.❤ I don’t buy living pumpkins to decorate with anymore. I buy pumpkins in all sizes from thrift stores and dollar tree to decorate with.

You bring up a great point on saving money for Fall decorations by shopping at discount stores and thrift stores! That's a great way to be able to re-use the decorations year after year. Living decorations are wonderful, if it's within the budget. At this rate, the cost of all types of food have just gotten too high. The grocery prices today seem to be equal to what organic groceries cost 5 years ago. Have a great weekend and thank you for sharing your tip on Fall decorations!

Oh my goodness when you said an albino pumpkin I laughed for sure. I know bacon is high but I buy it when it’s on sale and I think about how many servings I can get out of one package. I only eat two pieces or three if I’m eating a sandwich with it. So it’s actually a good buy for the amount of meals you can get out of one package. Kroger in my area runs sales on their vegetables and soups at Thanksgiving time so that’s when I stock up for the year. Once you get your pantry and freezer stocked you can just buy the items on sale. It saves a lot. I do buy the bigger trash bags not the contractor bags cause they are too big. I don’t like the kitchen size. See you next time. Jan
@CareFreeLivingChannel2 ай бұрын
Hi Jan! On a prior move, I was cleaning out my old apartment and the kitchen size trash bag broke on me. It was an absolute mess to deal with! I love bacon, too. Great idea on stocking up your soups at Thanksgiving when your store puts them on sale! Great point about setting up a pantry and then filling it in with sales items. Those little pumpkins were cute, I did not realize there was such a variety in shapes and sizes. Have a great day, Jan!
