Your mums flat looks great. We are lucky over here to have Greater Anglia trains. Really comfortable and reliable (I’m in Ipswich so recognised the train!)

You’re so lucky to have trains. In the US mass transit is so scarce. It’s pitiful. I’d take trains everywhere if I could. Mum’s flat is adorable. You’re a good daughter.

@@ShoestringJanetrains were the original method of travel for the US as soon as invented, but they were purposefully downgraded when cars were introduced. The US is constantly trying to create high speed railways that politicians are constantly squashing on purpose. I worked for decades in Florida to do environmental work for one- new administration comes in and kills it to keep cars (and thus people dependent on gas) the only means of travel. I left the state years ago. I heard the state just built one recently, but it doesn’t go very far or very fast- they have the technology but they want to make it feel less convenient than driving.

Lovely to see your mom settling in so well. I would happily move into that flat! I took my first train ride last week with freshly minted seniors discount. I hadn’t been on the train for over 30 years 😂 Looking forward to regularly walking the two blocks to the train station and heading into Toronto to do fun discounted things. Got my first OAP payment today and I think I’m heading to the Legion for a fish and chip lunch. 😂

Jane you want to check that the buildings tv licence it might cover her. I visit an old lady in sheltered flats and their tv licence covers all the residents. They split the cost between all.the reskdents. It migbt save you some money. Also it may be worth checking to see if she can claim pension credit. Your mum looks really happy there so giving you peace of mind. My mil has life line pendant after a fall its reassuring that they can get help if its needed.

@sjchan3199 funnily enough, my sister checked the paperwork today and they do have one! So cancelling her licence now. She’s not entitled to pension credit unfortunately

Your mum's flat looks lovely Jane. She is so lucky to have you and your sister to help her. I wish we had easy access to trains but we don't here in South Staffs. We would have to drive into Wolverhampton or Birmingham to get on a train and it would be a nightmare , not relaxing at all 😢 Angie ❤

Nice train journey and much easier than driving. The flat is great, I’d happily live in it but would replace the bath with a shower. Is it in central London?

Sorry its too late for this time, but you can use Tesco vouchers for railcards so they are cheaper if you have them and also quite often offers with different companies for 1/3 off the railcard. As you say, you get the money back pretty quick anyway. Flat looking great and your Mum seems at home already.

Thanks! I very rarely shop at Tesco so I don't have vouchers but that's a good tip anyway.
