Excellent explanation of the differences. Marketing blurs the differences deliberately. It’s obvious when often celebrities use conspicuous over consumption as a badge of honor to represent their perceived success.

Absolutely! Marketing certainly blurs the lines and it's not always obvious!

Thanks for Sharing! Being cheap is about spending less even if it sacrifices quality, value and time in order to cash in on some short-term savings. Cheap people settle, because to them money spent is money gone. When you are being cheap you are not cheating anybody but yourself. A frugal person thinks ahead; the frugal person plans, budgets and creates a road map to your destination. Being frugal is about prioritizing your spending so that you can have more of the things you really care about.

I'm trying to move from being cheap to being frugal, so this video really helps because it helps me see the difference and what I have to pay attention to to make this switch. It helps to see what I have to work on to stop being cheap and start being frugal! I think number 3 is my main problem: I'm always afraid of spending money even though I don't have to!

I consider myself a frugal person and one thing I am always asking myself when I purchase something is: is this the best use of this money? The price of something is not important. What's important is how much value it will bring to my life 😊

Superbly worded Nina and highly insightful. People always get mixed up between the words cheap vs frugal and also that of downsizing vs minimalism. For your info I have put myself on a shopping ban with no time limit. Obviously, I will continue to buy bio foods, clothes / shoes and toiletries only as needed. In fact, I now walk into a shop or go to the food market with carefully thinking how much do I actually need or use. Find that it works well and easily. Thanks for all the great videos and I wish and your partner all of the very best for 2019.

Great video! I like how clearly you explained the differences between the two, because it can be easy to confuse them. Based on what you’re saying I would say I’m more frugal than cheap, especially as I love cooking e.g. making pizza rather than getting takeaway. If you get into cooking and invest in some basic but good quality cookware, I swear it will be one of the best things you can do for your wallet

A frugal person can live next to a poor person and their lifestyle will be totally different is it education? I think so and of course it's not always the education you get in school.

I think looking at statistics would be worth it in this case - it's a complex matter. :S
