I've heard they use tall thin models because it shows off the garments better but I could see how this could create some kind of body dysmorphia in people that feel they don't look well in the clothing. I am on the shorter side (180cm) and don't feel that way personally. You should wear what you like regardless of what others might think.

What really doesn't help with body dysmorphia is that fashion sizes are not standard. I had to learn not to pay attention to sizes (small, medium, large, xl, etc.) and focus on how it fits and makes me feel. I'm 6'5 and lost 195lbs through my weight loss journey and now when I'm buying clothes I can fit a medium in one brand, XL in another, small if I'm feeling zesty & the same goes for pants... It can really fuck with your head if you wear a medium at one place and then all of a sudden you have to buy an XL at another.
@joylox
@joylox Жыл бұрын
I've been finding the same thing with sewing patterns. There's at least 4 different sizing systems for patterns, so the smallest number system puts me at I believe a 5 or 6, where the largest number system puts me at a 36, and I'm all through the teens in between. For the ones that use letters, it ranges a lot too, from XS to L depending on who made the pattern and what gender it's marketed as. And usually from there I either have to make some areas larger or some smaller to fit my proportions, so it's a mess. I always use sizing charts online and use actual measurements rather than some websites that ask for your size at another brand (which is usually from stores I don't shop at anyway). It also depends on the item. I went shopping at one store recently, and needed 3 different sizes depending on the cut and fit. Example, my dad gets classic fit dress shirts, and he'd have to size up if they only had modern or slim fit. Just that most pre-made clothing items don't care about measurements outside of one (waist or chest) per garment.
@yoyoiziah
@yoyoiziah Жыл бұрын
@@joylox Sizing is totally a mess, but you're spot on about using actual measurements to find the closest fit. I found a tailor and had all my measurements done, which has made it 10x easier to shop online. If need be, I will always size up if the measurements aren't quite right and get it tailored.

It's even "worse" with the sizes here in vn. You can buy authentic clothes at the mall, eg in uniqlo, adidas stores etc. But online shopping and selling through livestreams is very popular too and u can get lots of fake stuff and replicas for much cheaper. There are also many local brands. This is all nice and cool if you're about 150cm or 160cm and weigh under 60kg. In the beginning i also felt like i was too fat and couldn't buy any clothes here, but in reality sizes arent standardized. Im 174cm and do weightlifting and there's basically nothing that looks good on me bc clothes arent designed for bigger ppl

Man sizes are fucked, I don't even look at that shit, I just try to eyeball what would fit on me because I know they won't help me in the least. When I made my Grailed account it asked for my sizes and I was like 'man what the fuck are these hyeroglyphs'. Looked up size charts. They got everything man, USA, Europe, Japan, Korea, all different numbering systems but then there are the lettered ones different for practically every brand, I went down a huge rabbit hole, went back to grailed, looked back at that shit and again went 'man, what the FUCK are these hyeroglyphs'. Because it's different from everything else I've seen down in the mfin rabbit hole. It's got numbers AND letters. Great fun. No indication what the letters mean or nothing like that, it ain't even S M XL etc, it's random shit, and then the numbers man, what do the numbers mean? Are they European? US? Something else? There's no way to know. Grailed ain't got no sizing guide either, it's got a tutorial on taking your sizes and it talks about the different numerical systems but it doesn't talk about it's own fucking system or about what the number systems coincide to in fucking human measurements like centimeters. Man, I know that an US 6 is an Europe 38? That's fantastic, I still don't know how fucking big that is. I still ain't got my sizes on my Grailed account. I don't think I ever will. I ain't got the brain power for this.

For women the models have 24 inch waists. Women are expected to be thinner than men, but also naturally, typically, have higher body fat. @@AngelaEAwesome 24 inch waist on a woman is perfectly reasonable, its a fat distribution thing. Something being small isnt an issue, the problem is mainly the fact that nothing is the same size, a pair of german pants from 1995 sized at 30 would be a 26 n nowadays, etc etc.

@@AngelaEAwesomemen on average have bigger waist than women because men have bigger body frame(bone structure) compare to a woman. This just reminded me of how I shop things lmao. I enjoy fashion as a hobby because it's like playing dress up, mixing and matching clothes with certain styles and colors, plus it boosts my self esteem when I feel like crap. Clothes can be pricey sure, and theres nothing wrong with buying clothes at stores cause it's just a guilty pleasure sometimes when you find something you like and think looks cool on you. However, it can be hard when you're paying bills and need or want to save up for something else you need or want. In this case, thrift stores(or even online like Offer Up, Mercari, Poshmark, Etsy sometimes, etc.) have been my good friend for a long time when it comes to fashion, though it can be tough to find some really good shit, in good condition, AND cheap or for a lower price than other stores or places would have them now a days. I'm still bamboozled by the fact that I found a pair of doc martens my size for $20 one time in Goodwill, just had like a few scratches on it that looked like it was done by a cat.

I received a lot of compliments on my personal style when it was mainly thrifted/homemade pieces because I took my body proportions, color theory, and layering into account. Proportions make things hard. I have a relatively small torso but long arms, so if I get something that fits me well in the torso, it's too short in the arms, and if something is the right sleeve length, usually it's super baggy and too long. That part about cringing at how expensive a 40 dollar shirt is and then gradually warping your view so they seem cheap. I am now using those same shirts to messily eat BBQ ribs in cause they were “ cheap “

Regarding body dysmorphia: i also feel like nothing looks good on me bc im 5'7 and do weightlifting. I dont even have to train too heavy and i already get bigger. Clothes aren't designed for ppl with athletic build. It feels like all i can rly go for is the athleisure style, which i actually like.

How to look good in clothes as a short guy? If you use pants they always fold like 3x in your ancles or don't fit at all, if you use oversized clothes, you look like your mon dressed you with your older brother's clothes. The only thing that works for me is being in shape using fit clothes and shorts in tall sneakers

Don't worry, they are lyiing. I am 180cm (= 5,9ft) and used to be very skinny. And I can tell you; yes I could've worn a small but my arms would be way longer than the sleeve. The model would be my height but their arms would never stick out. So I truely believe that the sizing of the model they put in the description is a total lie.

Yh people need to embrace freedom and not pocket trapping…smile knowing you got the bag…smile knowing ppl don’t actually know you got the bag….smile knowing you could surprise ppl at any minute…but mostly do it for you! The feeling of security and freedom is unmeasurable and builds confidence, and life balancing happiness. Smell yourself not the smell of new cotton. Say smell you later, say cash me out later cause you won’t cash me inside your store lol
