My new favorite money-saving tip is...one trip a day. When I have to run errands, go grocery shopping, have a doctor's appointment, etc...I schedule and plan my route so I can make just one trip a day. I don't own a car so this is extra challenging because I need to coordinate bus timetables to go in one direction from start to finish and I also don't go out at night. The best part is once I come home, I'm home.

Hi Linda, can you cycle? It’s not for everyone and that’s ok. But if you can, it may be beneficial for you to use a bicycle/tricycle (potential electric assist) with a front rack on the front and a couple of panniers on the back. I can get a weeks shopping on my bike that feeds a family of 4 freeing up time and money for me.

Free eggs : the kindergarten next door has 2 laying chickens, I offered to feed and care for them while the teachers are on their annual school holidays. Most days they lay 2 eggs in their coop and I also get to take the manure for my garden. A good exchange for a few moments of care …. Eggs, also hard to buy and expensive here in Australia.

What a great tip for making meat loaf in the crock pot, thank you! I have not bought eggs since the prices went up, so I do not know the prices. But I saw a sign at the check-out the other day that eggs are limited to two boxes per customer (or was it household?). When we moved from Germany to the US about 25 years ago, we found it very strange that people left the TV and lights on, even if they left the room for a longer time (not just a bathroom break or to get something to drink/snack). Also the lights in every room in every office building seemed to stay on during the night when nobody was there. We were not used to that. In our first year there was a power shortage in CA and the power would be cut off randomly for about three hours every so often. And yet, living in a condo complex, we were still not allowed to dry our clothes on racks on the porch in the nice, warm CA sun. That stubbornness of putting aesthetics above a power shortage was absolutely mind boggling to us.

I’m on Vancouver Island, in Canada and regular, large dozen eggs are about $4.24 at my local store. Tomorrow however, our local drugstore has eggs on special for $3.59 per dozen. That’s in CDN dollars so that’s pretty darn good. Thanks for the meatloaf recipe. I LOVE my crockpot, so will definitely try that. Oh, and where I live our local energy company has challenge days. We always try and make them work. Tonight from 4pm -8pm if we can reduce our electricity consumption by just 20% we get a $3 credit. They do this several times a month. It’s kinda fun and easy to do. Every penny counts. Even when it’s a Canadian penny! LOL.

Im having a no spend january. My "bad" expenses had been snacks or meals at convenience stores. I spend many hours a day on the road for my job and usually eat breakfast and lunch in a vehicle. I was spending 150 a month in snacks/meals. Now i go to walmart on saturday and buy snacks much cheaper, bake my own cookies instead of buying them, and have packed every breakfast and lunch so far this month.(i always cook dinner at home.) I also have gamified my checking account. Every week i try to spend less on my bills and groceries, etc. than my paycheck was for the week, and at the end of the month whatever is left over goes in my Roth. Last month was 250. It's a fun challenge.this helps keep me on track every day.

"Make your home a place of contentment." Great advice! I have no idea what eggs are locally as we have chickens. We are in IN and have not seen the ground for two weeks. As a result, the feed bill is higher, but they are basically pets that lay eggs, so we do not pay attention to that. I live about twenty miles outside of Atlanta. Today you can get Eggland's best large eggs for $8.47 for 24. Now I love pasture eggs from Vital farms. They are about $7.60 a dozen. They really do taste better to me if I'm eating scrambled eggs, etc. So that is one thing I will spend money on when I can. I use cheaper eggs for baking, mixing, etc. I am really into meal prep. I live alone. I help take care of my 95 year old mom during the week. I don't like to have to cook when I get home. I will make a huge meatloaf, spaghetti sauce, chicken, homemade soup, etc... I do this on the weekend. It takes all day. But I have freezer meals and things I enjoy eating which helps with just picking something up! This has really helped me to eat better and not waste food. That is what I will be doing tomorrow. I also make full use of my crock pot. I also cook a whole bag of rice then portion them out and freeze. This has made my life so much easier. When I want the cheapest eggs (not organic) than I can find on our local market 30 eggs for 7.5 euro’s. As for living below our means we do the same as we always did and that is for many years now. And several of them were not overly Christmas themed. I noticed at Christmas this year that I was actually running low on bags. First time in years! So I got 8 for $2, was so excited! They also had coffee, and something I needed for a birthday gift on sale. Felt so good to walk out knowing everything was intentional. So far, so good! Looking forward to the year. Love the foil tip and I imagine the meatloaf came out moist. You can freeze eggs. I freeze them in silicone molds. You could freeze them in freezer ziplock bags. I freeze 7 together for my crustless quiche. I freeze 3 or 4 together for scrambled eggs for 2. You must thaw them in the fridge for 2 or 3 days. If the yolk is not quite thawed, I whir them up in the blender. You cannot fry thawed freezer eggs because the yolk will get weird. So, if you find a deal or markdown eggs snap them up and freeze them. With a little pre-planning you will always have eggs. The price is going to keep going up because there is no end in sight for the bird flu.

I'm in WV and we have hens so we rarely check egg prices, but last night we went grocery shopping in preparation for a big snow and below zero temps....and we noticed that eggs ranged from something like $4-something to $6-something per dozen, depending on what "grade/level" of eggs you purchase. I am doing something to save money while listening to your video: I've been looking through our food storage and noticed we have some various whole grans that need to be used up in bread baking, etc. Last night I wanted to grab a couple of loaves of bread in preparation for the storm and hunkering in. I about fell over at bread prices...they've risen again it seems. I went ahead and bought one loaf and decided to start baking our own more consistently again. I have several buckets and jars of whole grains in my kitchen right now. I'm typing this with my laptop resting on a bucket of rice! lol I am milling various flours and will begin tonight making bread and buns with what we already have before replenishing grains for storage. Bonus: it is 15F here presently and dropping in temp, so baking at 1am will only help to heat the house while I am making use of what we already have and proving our weekly bread. This is a win for me! Wanted to say that I have made meatloaf in the crock pot and it is wonderful! I'm sure my husband felt the same as Paul when contemplating crock pot meat loaf....but he loved it as well! I have also made manicotti in the crock pot....it was great! God bless!

In Michigan our eggs are around 4.50 a dozen. I got some great deals. Our local store had boneless chicken 17.99 a 10 pound bag so I got 2 (1.79) pound. Meijer had ground turkey 8.99 for 3 pounds (2.99 pound). I will not need to buy meat for awhile as I still have a big amount of ground beef in my feeezer. Have a great weekend 😀

Flour was 0,51/kg. I will have 3 additional people in my home for next 10 days. I am happy that I have found some good deals.

I'm in Storm Lake, Iowa and our egg prices are crazy as well. My husband prefers jumbo eggs and they are $5.66 per dozen. My 93-year-old Uncle has moved in with us in November so we can take care of him for awhile, and my best money saving strategy has been to save every bit of leftovers and invent new meals. I freeze all the leftovers I can and I either invent new meals or we have a total leftover night. It's working well so far. Thank you for another wonderful video! Have a blessed day!

Emmy, your nails look so pretty, I love that deep cherry color! Here in Massachusetts we could get a dozen eggs for $3.89 at Market Basket. To stay below our means this month I've pulled out my sewing machine and my fabric stash and have started making things again: I made new curtains for my craft room and a baby blanket for a friend's newborn. I got so much joy from making those, and didn't spend a dime! May God bless you too, you keep us inspired every week!

I am in North Carolina. I paid $3.99 for a dozen eggs last week. I check my budget sheet and look for ways to cut back. I saved $20 to $30 last month on gas for my vehicle. Staying home more and planning my trips out. Also, I have been batch cooking meals and freezing leftovers. I love that I have a ready made meal in just a few minutes. I rarely eat out. My daughter and two grandkids are taking me to lunch Monday. I am looking forward to that. My daughter is downsizing and had a load of really nice clothes to donate. We quite often donate. However, this time, I'm selling those clothes and making a little extra money. I am a senior on a fixed income. As another youtube content creator says, "Little is much when God is in it."

A silly little reuse I discovered while making soup in the crockpot the little mesh bag from the organic garlic bulbs is perfect for holding a bouquet garni: A couple of bay leaves, sprig of fresh thyme. It was much easier to fish the herbs out of the soup. Then after emptying the little bag in the compost or trash.,I stuck the little bag on little peg on the upper dishwasher rack.

Hi, Emmy! I live in northern Michigan (not the UP). I bought 18 eggs yesterday for $8.19. I have been participating in the January Pantry Challenge, doing my best to use only what we have on hand with the understanding that I would buy eggs and bananas when needed. Not actually doing this as a money saver, but to push myself to use things that may be ignored or forgotten, and to see what things I should keep more of in my pantry. Using it more as a learning/no waste tool.

When I saw jars of prepared sauces I knew there was a good reason! It looks like a good one -I have never seen it in Canada. You could probably make an Italian style pot roast with it or even some chili or a soup with them but they are very handy to have for a quick dinner as my sauce which I will make tmr takes several hours on the stove! And glass jars are great to keep dried herbs or other odds and ends or send a soup leftover for your son to bring home! Those cream style corn cans I use in shepherds pie along with some frozen corn and the canned beets can be used to make a borscht ( beet and beef broth soup) . Will try your meatloaf looks very good. Last note is that eggs can still be used a bit after their expiry date if not cracked. You can always freeze them by cracking them and putting in muffin tins and then taking them out and put in a feeezer bag. They should be used for baking or making something like a frittata or a strata or bread pudding.. Thanks for another great video and have a great weekend.

Having had chickens my tip is do always always do the egg test to see if they are still fresh, i found that so many times that store bought egg where the best before had past was still perfect to eat. After having a very tight budget this month due to several things that cropped up which we couldn't predict, my tip is to think outside the box and just because it is a no spend month doesn't mean you can't have the very best. My old carrotts, potatoes, frozen peas and brocolli looked rather depressing at me so i asked ai to give me a michelin restaurant inspired recipe with what i got and it was truly amazing.

Speaking of laundry-we do similarly, I pop the wash into the dryer for only 10 minutes since they come out of the washer wrinkly and stretched, sometimes linty. The dryer serves to fluff them a bit, then they go onto the drying racks. This has saved us considerably on the electric bill. The laundry detergent has markings on the cap, generally on the inside, SO OBSCURELY, you have to really hunt to see those markings! If you read the directions on most brand bottles, and locate those markings, they are quite small. I think most people, myself included until more recently, simply fill the cap and dump it in. My brand is literally a quarter of an inch marking at the bottom of the cap for the amount of soap needed for one load. So check those cap markings! Plus this saves your septic system from soap overload.

I live in MA. I go to a local farm a half hour from the city to buy my eggs. They are farm fresh, free range, I know the farm and their practices. A dozen are $4 which for local eggs is on the low side. Many sell for $7 and up per dozen. Supermarket is cheaper but I prefer supporting this local farm. I’m not eating out and I got myself an espresso machine which is awesome! I now can make espresso drinks at home and not spend the $ at coffee shops if I want one. I have already gotten my money’s worth after a month of using it. I am so glad I got one. I used to go to the coffee shop once or twice a week and I haven’t gone at all as I can make the drinks at home for a fraction of the cost-and the quality is just as good if not better than the coffee shop. I was able to get a nice machine on sale that makes great espresso. It was def worth it to me to get it.

I used to shop at Aldi and Walmart, since their prices were more competitive than regular grocery stores. However, I now shop Shop Rite loss leaders and Big Y for the bread loss leaders, and fill in with a few things from Aldi and Walmart that I know are priced lower. Yes, it is more time consuming to research the flyers every week, but well worth the extra 20 minutes is so! I plan my weekly meals around the sale items, and stock up on the super sales like canned goods and items that freeze well and store well. So nice to have these basics on hand in my pantry and freezer to prep meals easily! Then I only have to pick up produce and other fresh items that spoil quicker in between. Thanks for your amazing tips! Cooking from scratch much more now, and the foods taste so much better! Cooking and baking has become a fun hobby as well! We eat so well that my cooking is much better than the restaurants!

Price Rite in my local area has put a limit on the amount of eggs you can buy, which is 4 containers/dozens of eggs. On top of the supply/flu issue, it's also limited due to the new law passed in MA, where eggs must come from at least cage-free chickens. I've only seen Eggland's Best Pasture Raised eggs being sold. A few restaurant owners try to buy cases of eggs from the grocer irregardless (for their dishes that do call for eggs), but they had to be turned away before they wipeout the store of all the eggs for everyone else. I am feeling it for any local restaurant owners in my area, because there's one nearby that had to shut down due to the economy, and prices of protein is still going through the roof due to the culling/transportation/imports/etc-issues. If I see good discounts, I'll hop on it and meal prep with them asap. I'm the type to freeze any meal preps that I make, just so they'll last longer at cheaper prices. Less repetition on cooking, cleaning, and energy usage (including ones own physical energy) in the long run too.

You can also buy 15 dozen in a box and they are even cheaper.. split it with family and friends....And I always figure if it worth it to have organic if the price is only slightly higher!
