My major win this week was when I asked at the deli in our local grocery store if they had any of the ends of the summer sausage they would sell. She told me they threw them out. I was shocked at the waste, but she then asked if I would be interested in them. I said yes and she told me to check back at the end of the week. Yesterday she threw a large bag of end pieces and some slices that weren't uniform up on the counter and said enjoy. Free just for the asking!

I have a **mostly** flower garden in the front of my suburban house... and find that Carrots, Onions, Zucchini, Herbs, Mint, Tomatoes and even green chile ( A NM favorite) mix in well, and help the budget. The zucchini works especially well - those big beautiful leaves and bright yellow flowers look amazing from the street, and nobody knows that it's a vegetable garden surrounded by flowers. And nothing beats picking a tomato off the vine and grabbing a few leaves of basil for an amazing and free meal!

I've been blessed during the last couple weeks. A nearby social service agency has started putting out boxes of free foods outside their building. It looks like it's expired food from some grocery store, but there had been plenty of food that's still perfectly good. It reminds me of your anti-waste hauls. I sliced & froze 2 peppers this morning that I got last time because I was worried they'll go bad before I can get to them. Used some lovely baby spinach I got there to make a red lentil dal for lunch. Since prices on everything is higher right now, I'm only buying necessary foods, like coffee creamer, etc. Utilizing the free foods & using them with pantry items I already have is my current strategy. I'd like to stock up on some tinned goods, but I'm trying to hold out for some kind of sale if I can. Wish coffee would go down!

It seems like all the fresh veggies have gone up in price. Onions are the ones that I see the worst, at 1.50 a pound, then when you get them home they are black in the middle. I had to stop buying them. Potatoes also, I'm glad we planted so many this year. Fresh corn has gone up compared to last year also, I used to buy it and process it for the freezer, not anymore. There are some things I'm just not buying anymore at all, we have cut back on buying groceries and have been eating out of the pantry for awhile. More of the stuff I used to throw away is going into the freezer even if it is just a handful of stuff. No more drinks, snacks are homemade now. I love fritters, I wish my husband did. I'm using more sauces and gravies on things and cutting down on the meat, adding more veggies (all canned). I used to put the whole link of sausages in a meal now it's half and those rings you cut off are being cut into. It makes you think your getting more meat than you actually are. I'm from Kentucky. Thanks for the video.

Another supers sale was 3 whole leeks for 1,-,. The rest of the first leek turnt in to leekpotato soup, so there are still two whole leeks left😋. Hi Mike and Jane, Nice to see you today. I enjoy your grocery haul videos but I must admit to feeling a little envious of the extraordinary prices you are able to find. Our meat prices are not in the same category as what we can find here in this part of Canada. I definitely shop our low cost stores, and shop either Sunday late afternoon or early Monday morning. Bakery items are sometimes discounted but discounted meat items just do not dip under 2.99/lb for chicken and 4.99 for ground beef, regular grind, not lean cut for certain. I buy frozen fish fillets at 9.99/ kg bag. Local fresh fish is just not part of our menu, though we do splurge occasionally on some frozen scallops. Their sale price is 17.99/lb on sale. That is our anniversary supper kind of splurge. Your recipes looked so enticing in this video and courgettes and corn are definitely in sale category right now. Like you , we are still dealing with excessive heat and humidity. Hoping for some showers. Our end of Canada is in tinder dry territory and our firefighters are just sitting on pins and needles hoping for some really soaking rain days. Hope you have a great week. Love from 🇨🇦

Good prices! I had a real disappointment this week. I bought a big raw organic chicken at the reduced section. It was 40% off, food is expensive here, so I paid about €10 for it. When I got home, I was opening the package to cut the chicken into serving pieces, and vacuum seal and freeze them. As I opened the package, a horrible smell came out. Sometimes raw chicken smells, but this was extremely bad, rotten smell, and it didnt go away. It is a long drive to the supermarket, and diesel is expensive, so I ended up throwing it in the garbage. Very disappointed, and I am never buying chicken near the expiration date again. 😞

Pizzas in Morrisons have gone up from around £3.75 last year to £4.99 this year. I know it’s cheaper than a takeaway but i still won’t be buying them. Butter has really gone up in price. Also my milkman delivery milk was 90p a pint it’s now £1.37 😖

Here in Australia, the Food Police are neurotic about imports! It is weird. They tend to be neurotically nationalistic, yet they gush endlessly over imported foods (eg cheese). Thank you for the video!

Do y’all have celiac disease? Or no you just like to eat gluten-free? Is that flour a good tasting one to make baked goods with? I am just starting to enter this whole gluten-free realm. Now I’m not sold aeverybody needs to be gluten-free 100%. But with that being said most people need to cut back on their gluten 50% at least. I am one of those people so I’m trying to find a good gluten-free flour. Also it seems like prices are cheaper in France than America? Do y’all grow a garden? That is what I do to help with prices.

Only coeliacs need to be gluten free, no one else.
