Fruitcake

Fruitcake is one of those cakes which appears only during the Christmas season. There are people who love fruitcakes and there are people who hate them. The traditional fruit cake was dark since it was made with molasses and aged with the use of rum or brandy to preserve it. I personally love fruitcake because of the aroma of the molasses specially when it comes out of the oven. For fruitcake lovers, fruitcake must be aged to be able to appreciate it's full flavor. There are now fruitcakes without molasses which are called White Fruitcake or Tutti Fruti Cake. These cakes do not contain molasses but may or may not contain alcohol. They are typically just pound cakes or butter cakes with glaced fruits and nuts. This is a good alternative for those who do not like the flavor of molasses.
For fruitcake lovers out there, this is the right time to make your fruitcake and ready to serve them to your family on Christmas Day!
