**SPOILER He BELIEVED he loved Tohru, but only really saw her as a mother-figure for he never really had a good mother. (He has a mom, but she's not a good one.) He realizes this and the fact Kyo and Tohru are in love, not to mention he then begins to like Machi. This is from someone who's read the whole series online and has all but 2 of the english volumes that have been released in the US. (9 and 12 are the only two i'm missing. I even have 22 from a recent anime con. I went to.)
