I love it that this lovely “manly man” looked so adoringly at his wife, got into his wife’s knitting passion so authentically and participated so seriously - gave positive convo inputs and helped with math challenges during the podcast. Bravo.

Just watched your beautiful memorial episode dedicated to your late husband, & was intrigued by your earlier life in Australia. So decided to go back to your 1st episode which I’ve never seen. I also grew up in Riverina area & was born in Corowa in the 50’s. I also lived in Albury in early 70’s where my 1st son was born. I also went to a private boarding school, (in Rutherglen) from mid-late 60’s. Much later I lived in Yackandandah (from 2017-2019) & spent a lot of time shopping in Albury during that time. My husband also grew up in Mt Beauty, a beautiful part of Victoria. Your early knitting history also reminds me so much of mine, but unfortunately I’ve not excelled in this craft as you have. Mine has been ‘sewing’, which I love! However, despite now being in my late 60’s I’d still love to ‘excel’ in knitting. Btw, I do hope you’ve been able to eventually get back that beautiful childhood rug you knitted, which looked absolutely gorgeous. I thoroughly enjoy Fruity Knitting & it’s beautiful to see Madeline growing into such a gorgeous clever young woman. I also loved your recent Canadian trip. 😊❤

I’ve been recovering from surgery so decided to start watching from the beginning of your channel. I recently resumed knitting a project that I started 2017. Had to put it on hiatus due to needing surgeries on my spine, my dominant hand, rotator cuff repair, and now my knee. Though I’m getting physical therapy, my stamina is not back yet.

Thank you for making me laugh. When you said the color of the yarn Andrew used was Sea Enema, he graciously corrected you that he thought it might be Sea Anenome. Andrews always so polite. Andrea, you are fortunate to have all these episodes to remember him by. Love.

Hi there, This is my first ever time leaving a comment to anyone. I am a very new knitter, Just making my first ever socks. Today husband and I went to the little yarn shop an hour from our home and while getting more needles and 2 skeins of beautiful extra fine Merino,Polyamide,Cashmere wool blend I had a really nice conversation with the owner of the shop and we were telling each other the podcasts we watch. She told me of yours and I went home and watched. Your podcast was very interesting and your whole family is really lovely. I will continue to enjoy watching you all and I'm sure I will learn a lot as well. Thank you, Great Job.

Thank you, Andrew, Andrea, Madeleine and Jack. For being who you are, for sharing so much... skill, music, fiber people, inspiration, hikes +++. I’ve been knitting 68 years, and still I learn something new each episode. I saw the 70s & 80s episodes as they were available. Now I’ve started back at episode 1. From the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, USA, I send you fond appreciation for ALL your hours & hours of hard work! ~ Romilda (Rom like CD) Wilder

Oh goodness, every minute of this was ADORABLE! How special to have this archived for your family memories! So lovely seeing the dynamics between you all. Andrea’s expertise and passion just jumps off the screen, and Andrew and Madeleine seem quite bemused to be along for the ride. I’m so happy to have discovered so many episodes to have playing. I’m learning quite a lot, and I don’t consider myself a knitter. I’m a crocheter. But this is just delightful.

I just found your podcast and loved the story. I was with you completely. We are of a similar age and I am from Melbourne. My cousin lived in Albury, more recently Yakandandah and Mt Beauty. I spent my holidays in Albury, it was my second home. I know the habedashery that you are talking about, so exciting. There is nothing like a country haberdashery, absolute treasures. I can still see the thin cardboard boxes full of Bonds undies, ladies nylons and hair nets, tubes of buttons and collections of Cleckheaton and Patons wool their colours displayed in a rainbow in their cellophane bags. There was a haberdashery not so long ago in Daylesford where we had a caravan. The tartan kilts remind me of Fletcher Jones, that wonderful store where you could buy top quality tailored clothing, all Australian made ( remember the old days when we actually had a fashion industry before it moved off shore ). Mum bought my school uniform from Fletcher Jones, blazer, pleated skirt, jumper and the occasional woollen kilt. Now everything is stretch knit. Like you, I spent my childhood in Home Economics and Sewing classes where we stiched and knitted. I also had a wild knitting phase with 10 different wools and multi patterns. I stopped knitting after completing my first boyfriend jumper in an Alpaca mix in 8 ply with a kookaburra on the front. It was extra large and by the time it was nearly finished my Canadian boyfriend had decided Mt.Hotham was just not Whistler and returned home. There is an old wives take about knitting for your boyfriend. I remember casting off in tears. I have always been a good knitter then moved onto crochet, but after a 1.8m square 3 ply baby blanket that took me from baby one to baby four to finish, I couldn't look at a crochet hook for years. I have been collecting wool for years so yes I have a stash, but I miss those haberdasherys where I would flick through pattern books, and you new they were tried and tested patterns. Now it's Ravelry. My 3 daughters all knit and 2 are currently making socks in our continuing Covid lockdown. Our favourite wools are from Bendigo Woollen Mills. The last few of yet another of our dying industries. Thanks for memory lane Andrea. I have already bought a Kim Hargreaves book, love the patterns.

I’ve been watching your wonderful podcasts on and off for maybe 18 months and enjoy them so much because you are such a beautiful family. I thought I’d watch your first episode to see how you introduced yourselves. It was so professional and also lighthearted and fun. Your relationships as a family are so heartwarming. Of course it’s tinged now with so much sadness at the loss of Andrew. But the way you, Andrea and Madeleine are carrying on is amazing. Andrew adored you both so much. He’d be so happy to know how your podcasts are developing and becoming better each time. 🧶🙂🇬🇧💕

I've only just found your channel and my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband Andrew. I'm a fellow Aussie I live in the Blue Mountains in NSW and I thought I would check out your early videos, I love hearing peoples stories. I'm older than you, but the Bonds Cottontails are just about iconic in Australia, I first encountered that money/receipt delivery system when I was about 12-14 when my mother took me into Sydney to Mark Foys a big department store and we purchased fabric for me to sew my first dressmaking project. I can knit and I love a challenge so I'm always looking for something new to try. I have a lovely boutique LYS and she has beautiful yarn, but a lot out of my price range, sadly - so I buy what I can. I don't know why yarn is expensive here maybe because we are so far away from the rest of the world or maybe I'm just out of touch. I look forward to listening/watching some of your present and past episodes. I love to hear how you come to be in Germany, simply because I love different countries and cultures, but if I'm out of line for asking I understand.

I just found you, and could not decide if I should watch your latest or start at the beginning. So today I started with #1 and I absolutely love your podcast, I love learning new ideas, stitches and since today is Oct 8th 2020, and we are in the midst of COVID-19 I will put your excursions on my future bucket list. Thanks so much, for sharing, teaching and putting a smile onto my face.I am originally from München,, and now live in Los Angeles. And I have never analyzed why I knit and after hearing you say that you are a project knitter, I realized so am I. And I love to knit and crochet, but I never have to wear socks or sweaters. I am right now designing something using Arne & Carlos Regis yarn, it intrigued me because it is a technically designed yarn.

OMG! After all this time, I’m looking at Episode 1...I know Bright well, having spent time there when a good family friend died and left property there to my sister. How things come full circle. We spent a blissful time in that part of Australia, seems like a dream now...what a landscape, and the birds...thank you so much for eliciting these memories. Your description of Albury is wonderful. Reminds me of my youth in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire...where I bought a riding habit from Robert Hall...olden days all ‘round. We used to go out at dawn and ride a rich lady’s ponies in the misty morning, until we were caught! Time passes, and now I’m assembling a spinner’s flock of Wensleydale, Corriedale, Cormo & Romney. I’ll keep watching...that’s for sure. Cheers to you and Andrew, and many thanks!

So now I am finally watching your first 'podcast'. I think I am a different 'kind of a knitter' than you, Andrea. You knit because you want/need to have a certain garment (you call it 'project knitter'). I knit because I love to have something to do with my hands AND I want to try out different techniques (and even different hand-crafts). And then I need a product to make in that technique; often I try to design one myself. Your Fruity Knitting is very inspiring for me. After watching several episodes I have got a lot of new ideas for techniques and materials to try out ... And it inspired me to go back to Ravelry, where I wasn't active for several years.

Love your presentation a real family affair I am nit a knitter but I love beautiful knitwear and facinated by colours and textures I love crochet my mother started me on this craft when I was about five or six years old 'back in the day' if you ever visited any Caribbean home you will be welcome by these frilly efforts that adorn the homes of most Caribbean people Ilove the designs anh ow you modify the patters You are very clever. I love your introduction of your husband into the programme and his (contribution) input. Dont normally see men doing craft work with the family. Nice one Yor husband remind me of Monty Don whom I used to watch every Friday on the Gardening programme but alas he is off now until the spring I pray for your husband that God will give him the strength and courage during this challenging times

I've been watching on and off for a while and have decided to watch from the beginning. My extreme knitting/crocheting is in the dark at the pictures, I also knit in the car, on the bus, boat and train. I've knitted and crocheted on my break at work, while waiting on the kids at school and in the past sitting on my Granny's garden wall. I had a skirt that I sewed with big pockets on and I would put the yarn in there and even knit while I walked.

Here it is two years after the original broadcast date and I’ve just discovered you. I’ve seen some recent episodes and have dipped back into your past. The funny things is today I went to Joann’s Fabric the chain store here in the US and there was the Alice Starmore knitting Tudor Roses. Lovely stuff, I can’t imagine doing doing such glorious pieces, I’m rather a beginner, truly a Mount Everest.

Hi Andrea & Andrew! We just tuned in at the recommendation of a friend. I started knitting at around the same age, though I am much older than you. My mother and aunt taught me, and like you, I had a big gap in my knitting. But now I am addicted to it! My husband started knitting with me a couple of years ago, and some of your comments about teaching Andrew reminded us of us! Also, that Cookie Monster sweater? I made Don a similar one with similar "issues". I ended up running thin elastic through the folded over collar and it worked great. He didn't really like it but I wore it with leggings (the 80s, remember?) I loved it and then it met its demise...HE accidentally threw it in the washer AND dryer and it became doll-sized. 🙄 Anyway, we look forward to going through all of your episodes! I welcome respite from the troubles of the world and social distancing! Take care!

Such a wonderful family! I've been watching your podcast...and I love how you have this put together. So much information. I'm a knitter, crocheter, weaver, rag rug maker, necklace crocheter...painter...I love it all! Right now...I've started doing something a bit different. I wanted to add something unique to my necklaces...so I've been using button's that have 4 holes and with a doily crochet hook...I've been crocheting through the holes to make flowers from the buttons....its really cute!

Started with episode 13 (or maybe it was 14) and now I'm going back to see your humble beginnings. Well, you would have had me right from the start as I'm not even halfway through the first episode and I'm loving the podcast. Such a lovely, charming and interesting couple. Great stories and I love how detailed you both are with your knitting. The details you share are exactly the details I love and want to know. I can't post my comment without mentioning I so appreciated the details of Andrea's haberdasher experience. Also, the sea enema comment had me in stitches. So funny. Take care and I look forward to the rest of episode one and then onwards and upwards. Cheers.

I discovered your podcast from Inside Number 23's Edinburgh Yard Festival episode. I love Alice Starmore's designs, too and bought 2 books all the way from US to Beijing, China, where we just moved to in summer 1998 .I knitted a jumper for my son and one for myself. ... Time flies. Now I plan to pick up knitting for myself again. Your videos are fantastic starting points for me. Thanks!

Hello from Wisconsin, USA. I am thrilled to have found your podcast. I love the generous sharing of family experiences as well as your vast knitting knowledge. Having never traveled to a Europe it is going to be very exciting to experience it through your podcasts. I will be on a marathon you tube venture to catch up! By the way, I recall shopping for my first Home Economics project in a similar type department store that you described. It had the same pulley system for the handling of cash. It was a hoot. My skirt was a gathered skirt (required sewing) in a bright blue and I looked dreadful in it! You brought back fond memories. It appears you have been very successful with your podcasts and I look forward to each and every one. Thank you so much for sharing.

After having resurrected my knitting of Veronik Avery’s “Ski Sweater” (started 6 years ago & worked only a few months on the drives to/from rinks during my son’s hockey season) I searched her name and happened on your interview of her in your Podcast #34 (which was amazing!). I then went to your Podcast home page and listened to your most recent podcast #109 with your very sad announcement about Andrew’s condition. I’m thinking of you both as I dig into the treasure of all of your podcasts & do certainly hope you both stay determined to apply the best of care, to keep making decisions based on hope v fear, and to come out on top. Cheering you on, with much gratitude, from Teton Valley, Idaho✨🙏

I've so wanted to learn how to knit. I've subscribed for a year on more to your platform & it is today, 05/25/21 that I am watching the first episode. I did watch other episodes until I saw Andrew was beginning his battle. (It's very comforting to watch this episode) In January 2020, I attended my first Vogue Knitting event in NY. Watching this is helping me to begin knitting from within. I think I was traumatized, sorry for being so melodramatic, I saw my mom somewhat teach my sister how to knit, but it never caught on as a hobby or practice in the household. When I asked to be taught, no one was interested in teaching me. I always wanted to learn. All the terms are new so my ears are perked up. This is a wonderful first episode.

How many times did I watch this episode, I couldn't know. It brings me a lot of comfort and it's like being there with you in this incredibly cosy scene. It somehow reminds me of a certain ambiance during winter in my childhood (probably because of the 80's/90's feel of your Alice Starmore sweaters :) ) and also reminds me of the feeling I have when I watch a favorite movie for the 100th time.

I began watching your pod casts at episode 70 I think. I have enjoyed every minute of those I have watched so far. I’m getting so much inspiration and feeling challenged to do some colour work again. My first sojourn into colour work was when I was waiting for my youngest daughter to arrive. I saw a pattern in a magazine of a fitted hip length jumper with short sleeves in houndstooth pattern. I got the wool and made it in red with black houndstooth. It’s the only colour work I have done but am getting itchy fingers watching you. Off now to watch your second episode so I can catch up on all you’ve done.

Starting on my second round of viewing your podcasts! I can't believe I watched all 23 (?) episodes and never once got bored! :D I've dabbled in podcasts off and on, but never found the charm in them. Until I started watching "Fruity Knitting." First off, that name is hilarious. I'd love to know how you picked it. But secondly, your tastes in knitwear coincide with mine, your entire family is very amiable and the knowledge and tips you shower throughout the episodes are fun and enlightening. I also love all the professionals (and regular old knitters like me) that you have interviewed. Sorry about blathering, but I wanted you to know how much I value your show here in the grain fields of the Midwest countryside in the US. Keep up the good work!

Oh my! I absolutely adore your podcast! I love your approach to knitting and your knitting history. I'd have loved to have learned at such a young age, my home economics in school was awful, just very basic cooking and hygiene and basic sewing machine and hand sewing skills, it was however enough to start me off and crave the creativity of fibre art. That was in 2002 - 2008 I was in high school, I doubt they will even teach that in a few years. There's just such a disposable attitude towards clothing these days, people would rather buy a new cardigan than sew a button back on. I work in a soft furnishings store and we still have a haberdashery department, I also love the word. So looking foreword to continuing to watch the both of you and also see your husbands knitting skills grow and develop, it's wonderful to see a gentleman take interest and enjoy this amazing hobby X love from Glasgow xxx
