That's interesting for sure! It actually discolored a bit more but it's most noticeable on the sides. The soap has cured for 6 weeks so I don't think it will get any worse.

Hi Holly, playing catch up, lol! I think the swirls turned out awesome! Yes it does look similar to Sweetly Clean, but I'm impressed it didn't discolor to bad. Most fruity loops does. So I'll remember to get my fruity loops from Nature's Garden. I buy a lot of my fragrances from them anyway. I love there shipping. Usually here in 2-3days which is awesome! I really enjoyed you testing this. If you ever need an idea for videos, testing videos are always great. Brambleberry and Nature's Garden are one of the few companies that give acurate reviews. Other sites tend to have a huge swing in what is advised. Jill

First of all, I LOVE your videos and your wonderful presentation. I have a question - when you strain your lye water, what exactly is the left over stuff in the strainer and does throwing it away change the strength of the lye?
@moriversoap3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Nancy! The sodium hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide in the air to create sodium carbonate. Typically soaps do contain some amount of sodium carbonate. I don't find that it makes any difference to the batch. I've weighed it before and it was extremely minimal.

@@moriversoap Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. No wonder I'm a fan!
@Random_8473 жыл бұрын
Love how that turned out!! I’ve seen other soapers (when designing the tops) start with the zig zag but then run length ways as well which also turns out beautiful but I always find myself thinking STOP STOP after that single zig zag across the top because it is so gorgeous on its own which you’ve perfectly demonstrated here!! Love watching your videos Holly you’re awesome! I have always frozen my goat milk and incorporated into the lye(replacing all of the water) I REALLY want to do it the way you’ve done, I feel it would be more beneficial or even just a creamier feel on the skin, do you use fresh or powdered? I have always used fresh because it’s right at the grocery store plus I like drinking it as well. Thanks for your time Holly, I know you must be crazy busy!
@moriversoap3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I love your profile name! 😀 I have a horrible way of over-swirling so I tried to keep it simple this time. LOL I love using milk as an additive and not as a 'full milk' situation. It does just add that creamier feeling without the trouble of the frozen goat milk situation. I'm too spontaneous for frozen milk. I prefer to use the fresh milk. Since this video, I was not able to get goat milk locally (we have to go to the health food store) and so I did use powdered for that. I don't really notice a big difference between the fresh and the powdered in the finished product. I just prefer the lusciousness of fresh, liquid milk.
@Random_8473 жыл бұрын
@@moriversoap I can see myself over swirling too!! lol I am blessed to have fresh goat milk at walmart. I haven’t tried it directly with the oils fresh yet though. I also need to pick up some powdered. Oh! I also love using aloe juice in place of water, if you have time and haven’t done that try it and see if you like it. I can’t wait to buy your soap! I’m trying to expand my fragrance choices as well. Thank you for your time Holly 🙂 Blessings to you and your family ☮️💟 🧼

I just got this fragrance a month ago and wondering too. I saw Katie used this and use a little titanium d. It still looked really good. I did one with a different brand same fragrance and it definitely discolored, got really hot, and made glycerin rivers in soap. I hoping to try the fruity rings soon :)
@moriversoap3 жыл бұрын
I hope it works out well for you. I think if I use some TD next time that it will be great.

Thanks Holly very pretty soaps. Is the fragrance strong or mild? 💕

Did it discolour any further? I've had FOs that discolour very lightly at first but by the end of a week are darkly discoloured. So I never trust the initial discolouration :)
@moriversoap3 жыл бұрын
The picture shown at the end was actually taken right before I uploaded the video yesterday. It has been curing for 6 weeks. You can see that the discoloration is still really slight. I did notice that the sides were leaning less ivory and more beige. I suspect most of that can be managed by using titanium dioxide instead of white mica next time.

I usually do. They provide extra samples or just family soaps if the batch doesn't really turn out.

Why did you save the lye bits?
@moriversoap3 жыл бұрын
I just strained them out. The lye solution was made several days prior and so the lye lint was 'crunchy'. I always fear that they won't break up and will create a lye pocket. So I strain it if it isn't fresh.

I really love the design! This may seem crazy but I’d love to come help you in your shop, cleaning dishes, cleaning up the shop, anything you’d let me tackle. Free of charge that is. I’d love to see your creative process. I have no ambitions to become a professional soap maker. Might try my hand at little small batches for me & my family, maybe lol. Anyway, if you ever want a helper to do some deep cleaning, stocking, etc. It would be nice to be able to chat with someone and hear your journey and get to know you. Lots of love & god bless xo Summer💖
