We have more than 1,000 trailheads across the state. How many snipers are there and how much time are they willing to sit around doing nothing? Not a realistic or scalable solution, not to mention you are advocating the death penalty for theft via a vigilante.

I hike in area that are way out of the Seattle metro. Hikes that require long forest roads to ge to the trail head tend to be safer as thefts will tent not to take the time and effort to get to the trail heads.

@@pnwhiker311 Can this be done in Point Defiance park? I feel like parked cars are routinely targeted by the same criminals every summer. Not TPD's territory and Ruston PD can't be bothered apparently. Slow response times, and many exits, so I guess thieves keep breaking into cars.

Right by Chehalis Western is another trail head I use to visit often. I was always nervous I was going to get a ticket or my car was going to get broken into, one of the two seemed inevitable. But it was absolutely one of the best hikes in that region, easy for sure and with many options. One road essentially that went all the way, and a mile or so trail that meandered through a dense forest. At the end of it all was an abandoned dock and amazing views of the sound. Loved that hike! But don't want to go back for exactly this reason!
